Diesel has better fuel economy over gas engines so lamang ka doon. Ang magic number na dapat mo tanungin is your mileage? I think the magic number should be around 15,000km a year anything below that I think you're better off with gas parin. Maintenance is also a consideration, most gas engines don't need oil changes until every 10,000km especially if you use fully syntehtic, diesel goes around 5000km or so. The oil of diesel engines is a tad bit more expensive too comapred to the oil for gas engines. Buti nga sa Innova mga P60K lang difference sa Carens its a whooping P205,000 difference!!!! Also let me tell you that in the world markets DIESEL IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN GAS. Dunno if that will happen here since the government will always try its best to manipulate the markets, I doubt their success though...

but as far as i know, diesel engines are theoretically supposed to last longer than gas (assuming same level of maintenance) since it was built to be stronger because of the higher compression and its intended use. also, in case of emergencies, diesels can run on other fuels. even plain old cooking oil. pero syempre, in the real world, di mo iisipin yan hehehe.

anyway, one thing din, pansin ko mas mataas resale value ng diesel engined vehicles vs their gas engined variants. pero most likely babaliktad sya once mas mahal na ang diesel fuel sa gas.

Toyota in particular? I’ll go with their VVTi instead of their D-4D:hook1:

this thread will also help though it’s not purely for Toyotas.

I just read in the papers that oil companies will continue to raise the price of diesel for 'under-recoveries', while maintaining the price of gasoline. So the benefit of diesel being cheaper than gasoline may not be true in the long run.

Another thing to think about is if your officemate plans to install an LPG fuel system in his car, then gasoline is the way to go.

If it was me, I'd go for the gasoline version. Use the price difference to have an auto-lpg system installed.

IF they are serious about buying now, check with different dealers in how they will consider the vehicle warranty in regards to auto-lpg conversion. If you don't want to bother with the warranty, you can also consider buying slightly used vehicles with two to three years of ownership.

    diesel is better.
In a 3rd world country such as ours, wherein the large majority of low cost mass transportation uses diesel fuel, The goverment will surely find a way to reduce the price of fuel specifically diesel.
better get diesel, ite benefits outweight the initial cost.

well for me, depende pa din sa pag gagamitan, kasi kung service lang at hindi naman long travel, okey na ang gas engine, pero kung long travel at loaded ka lagi mas better ang diesel kasi mas maganda ang performance ng diesel sa mga malayuan at mabigatan, not like gas engine feel mo ang pag hihirap nya kapag long run ang usapan.....just for me lang

i completely agree. diesel pa rin sir, imho mas proven na ang durability and dependability. less pa ang cost sa maintenance. for two generations, my family has been using diesel fed engines,we never get headaches in replacing parts. these engines delivers more torque and is able to take more punishment and still run compared to gas type engines.

Ako naman I have been using gasoline fed cars for how many years na. Pero last year nag decide ako kumuha ng SUV na diesel engine. So far no problems naman.(knock on wood)

I'm a diesel user for very long time using Isuzu engines, bad thing about diesel is the noise and vibration even new generation diesel still has it, have to keep changing oil at regular 5000K or less. Now everytime my neighbor's Isuzu Highlamder passed by, I can't ignore the loud tak-tak sound it radiates

When I decided to get an Innova about a year and half ago, it was also my dilemma choosing between the 2 variants. I was already reading about LPG thread way back then...I ended up getting the Gas version thinking I might go LPG someday

Today my Innova is LPG equipped and I'm not bothered anymore with fuel price hikes every weekends. Engine runs smooth and spark plugs are clean and looking healthy not like on Petrol where my spark plugs looks like a burnt pandesal

May psychological impact kasi yan eh. When you buy the car from the CASA you're so excited about your new car that your barely feel the pain of paying the extra costs for diesel engines nor do you think the maintenance sosts associated with it since matagal pa naman yun. But when you go the pump weekly you always feel the pain frequently. So mas emotional yung attachment to disel rather than logical or quantitative. I too have been doing my computations and find that diesel is not worth it on the long run unless you have high mileage or you really need the torque but for everyday work-home-mall-errands use its a waste of money.

Used to be. Not any more. Mercedes lost quite a bit of money on the "Smart" because they went overboard and re-engineered absolutely everything from the ground up. But they sold the concern, and there's a new company making them.

Back in 2001 or so, they still had them, I think. Were selling for around 1m for the Smart ForTwo and about 1.5m for the Coupe. This was when top-of-the-line compacts were selling for just 800k pesos.

A lot of money for something so small, eh?

800cc, three cylinder engine. Rear drive. New ones are 1000cc, I think.

The Smart ForTwo is tiny, using less materials, but the amount of engineering that went into it is immense. MB designed a very strong crash structure, in order to make it safe to drive on the road beside your typical 4-ton SUV. They designed their own wheels and wheel sizes (instead of just using parts from the A-Class, which would have made more sense) so that the wheels would be the exact right size... it has a robotized-manual gearchange (in other words, clutch-type, but automatic) and an available diesel (though from what I remember, the local offerings were gasoline).

A Smart ForTwo, thus, is a car you could park in half the space... drank little gas (though its EPA ratings aren't really spectacular) and has better crash ratings than many trucks. But it's not that cheap to make one, and as a CBU here, it's pretty expensive.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
