Diesel has better fuel economy over gas engines so lamang ka doon. Ang magic number na dapat mo tanungin is your mileage? I think the magic number should be around 15,000km a year anything below that I think you're better off with gas parin. Maintenance is also a consideration, most gas engines don't need oil changes until every 10,000km especially if you use fully syntehtic, diesel goes around 5000km or so. The oil of diesel engines is a tad bit more expensive too comapred to the oil for gas engines. Buti nga sa Innova mga P60K lang difference sa Carens its a whooping P205,000 difference!!!! Also let me tell you that in the world markets DIESEL IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN GAS. Dunno if that will happen here since the government will always try its best to manipulate the markets, I doubt their success though...

Toyota in particular? I’ll go with their VVTi instead of their D-4D:hook1:
this thread will also help though it’s not purely for Toyotas.

I just read in the papers that oil companies will continue to raise the price of diesel for 'under-recoveries', while maintaining the price of gasoline. So the benefit of diesel being cheaper than gasoline may not be true in the long run.
Another thing to think about is if your officemate plans to install an LPG fuel system in his car, then gasoline is the way to go.

but as far as i know, diesel engines are theoretically supposed to last longer than gas (assuming same level of maintenance) since it was built to be stronger because of the higher compression and its intended use. also, in case of emergencies, diesels can run on other fuels. even plain old cooking oil. pero syempre, in the real world, di mo iisipin yan hehehe.
anyway, one thing din, pansin ko mas mataas resale value ng diesel engined vehicles vs their gas engined variants. pero most likely babaliktad sya once mas mahal na ang diesel fuel sa gas.

If it was me, I'd go for the gasoline version. Use the price difference to have an auto-lpg system installed.
IF they are serious about buying now, check with different dealers in how they will consider the vehicle warranty in regards to auto-lpg conversion. If you don't want to bother with the warranty, you can also consider buying slightly used vehicles with two to three years of ownership.
