Just today, I had to drive to downtown Manila from my place in Paranaque so I thought I would check on the gas consumption of the n16-Nissan Sentra. Here are the results:

Fuel: Caltex Silver Unleaded, full to the brim
    Aircon: On the entire trip
Minimal traffic (stops only during traffic light)
    Vehicle: N16, 1.3 MT
    Current Mileage: about 1,180 kms
    Time of load: 8:15 a.m.

Route: Paranaque to SM Sucat, left to coastal road, then Roxas Blvd, right to Pedro Gil. On my way back, Pedro Gil to Taft, Quirino, then South Superhighway. Total distance travelled: 36.1 kms.

Amount of fuel loaded to reach full tank once again: 1.48 liters
    Time of load: 10:45 a.m.

This gives my n16 an average consumption of 24.4 kms. per liter

Can any of you guys corroborate this or is there something wrong with my trip meter? Although based on my route, mga 36 kms nga yun.

There's a big problem with calculating based on so little gasoline... different pumps shut off automatically at different fuel levels, and air bubbles can spoil your calculations.

One team at a Honda Challenge protested because the gas boy overfilled their car by a bit on the refill, ruining any useful calculations you could make from the short 40 km course.

You should fill up, wait till the tank is almost empty, and fill up again at the same pump. There's no guarantee that your odometer will read correctly or that you will get the same amount of gas, but this method lessens your error to maybe 5% or less.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

thanks sa advise. Hintay ko muna umabot sa empty and then will gas up in Caltex. I'm sure may difference 'to coz work days na and stuck in traffic na naman ako most of the time to and from work.

Had my last full tank last Friday. Total kms. logged: 252.5, amount of fuel loaded: 24.65 li. Ave. gas consumption (city driving and slex), about 10.2 kms./li. Put in about 5% room for error.

    '88 3.0L V6 4x4 Nissan Pathfinder SE w/ about 155,000 miles = 15-17 mpg
    '93 2.4L V4 Toyota Previa LE with about 250,000 miles = 18-19 mpg
    '07 3.3L V6 Hyundai Sonata SE w/ only 500 miles = 22-23 mpg

all mileage computed at about 60/40 city/freeway driving. amazing how technology can squeeze-out more power and better mileage in todays cars and i'm anticipating that mileage on our new daily driver will get even better as it gets broken-in
