How to compute KM/L gas consuption

1. Go to gasoline station. (preferably near your house).

2. Reset trip meter. (it's the sub-function of the odometer (kilometers) display on your dashboard... check your manual on how to do it, but it's usually just a matter of holding down the button to reset it.)

3. Fill tank to the automatic cut-off (I.E.: "first click lang po")

4. Drive around as normal for a day or two... however long it takes you to use up the gasoline. The most accurate way to do this measurement is to use a full tank of gas, but if you can't wait that long, a half-tank is good enough.

5. Fill the tank again at the exact same pump... hopefully at the same time of day. ("first click lang po..." don't let them top it off to the brim)

6. Take the distance travelled on the trip-meter, then divide by the number of liters it takes to fill the tank again. That's your km/l consumption.

Take note: Your car's odometer is not accurate. Many odometers read a bit fast (around 1-5%). Thus, your km/l reading will be inaccurate by a little bit. I've gauged my odometer as being about 5% slow (against a GPS device), so when I measure 9 km/l, it's actually about 9.5.

If you don't have a GPS device, the only way to gauge odometer error is to check it against the kilometer markers on a smooth, level road (like sections of the NLEX). If there are hills, though, the KM markers go off a bit, too...

pag malapit na mapuno yung gas tank mo, automatic na magstop yung paglagay ng gas from the pump. may click sound yun.

that first click doesnt mean your tank is full up to the brim. that is why most gasoline boy will ask you if you want to fill it up to the brim or not.

dun sa mehod na nadecribe, stop ka na dun sa first click.

Just tell the gas boy to fill up your tank up to automatic.

They'll know what it means.

Besides, it's bad to fill up your tank to the brim.

You have to leave room for your fuel to expand.

Yep. Don't fill to the brim. You need some air space to account for fuel vapor/expansion.

That's why there's an automatic stop.

tol, yang click na yan e hindi sa sasakyan natin kundi dun sa pump ng gasolinahan,yun sa nilalabasan ng gas.that click is the sound pag nag-auto shut off yung nozzle pag kinakargahan ka ng gas kaya wheter naka-on or off ang makina mo, magki-click yun kasi ndi nman sya part ng sasakyan.

Haha... na-explain na pala ni fourtheboys...

You should never fill to the brim... it's dangerous, and potentially bad for your paint if it spills over.

It's also inaccurate in doing gas measurements... just let the pump decide what's full and use the exact same pump for the refill, so the automatic shut-off occurs at the same level.
