It seems the filipino inventor wasn't the first...

hindi kaya yan na ang ginagawa ng mga oil companies ngaun hehe. tapos pretend na lang sila may oil rigs for show purposes pero bulk of their diesel come from non-biodegradeables. sabi ko na nga ba eh, may pera sa basura.
But it is only economically viable when diesel and other fuels are expensive. As mentioned in the news video, this synthetic fuel is cheaper than regular fuel by PHP5.00 only. So what happens when pump fuel prices goes down by PHP5.00 or more? It ends up as being more expensive to produce.
This is basically the same with other "green" or bio-fuels. They are expensive to produce and only economically viable when world oil prices are at their peak.

So the question in my mind... what happens now with the anti-plastic movement?
Would they now go into fuel production and resume the use of plastic bags?![]()

Instead of thinking of ways how to produce fuel to satisfy the increasing demand for it, we should invent machines that use less energy or less fuel but produces the same amount of output.
Regarding this "invention", if the inventor found a new way to convert plastic to diesel, then it is still a valid discovery.
If that is the case, the next question would be about its practicality.
and when there's a big plastic-to-fuel plant that needs continuous supply of waste plastic the market will put a price on waste plastic
hey, kailangan mo eh. bayaran mo
hehe

The amount of plastic in garbage isn't that big. You have to sort it, classify it and clean it. Obviously can't have food scraps, metal and wood in the machine with the plastic, as this would contaminate the product.
Poof. The cost of manual labor and cleaning eats up your last peso difference per liter to regular fuel.
As shown in the links, it's relatively easy, and many individuals and companies are doing it.
The question is the cost per liter and economies of scale. If you don't have enough plastic waste and cheap enough electricity or heating, then it's not economically viable.
dami nagbebenta
Plastic To Fuel-Plastic To Fuel Manufacturers, Suppliers and Exporters on Alibaba.com

Btw. Kung matutuloy to.
kayang maduming diesel to..

sir, malinis ang extracted na diesel o gasoline. kung gagamitin ito ng buong mundo, who will be afraid of the plastic bag? i remember a senator who was proposing a ban on plastics. i sent his staff the brochure, syempre, mananahimik na.
pati hongkong, takot sa plastic bag, this invention is now being utilized in Germany, USA, etc.. The US version can convert all municipal waste, including wood and other kitchen wastes. The world will be a lot cleaner if govts will utilize this idea.
