Gti consumption for a 11-12 y.o car is 7km/ltr city driving and 10-11 long provincial driveshttp

check it out - that used to be my ride
current owner is a buddy of mine and a real
Gti lover...we're passing on to you some tips from other
Gti lovers to keep your ride in tip top shape

1)Tama, change oil every 5000km or sooner. Additive breakdown leaves soot which finds its way to your lash adjusters. When that happens, wham! Top overhaul.

    2) Replace timing and balancer belts according to recommended schedule. Sooner the better (they don't make belts like they used to). While you are at it, replace the waterpump too. A day of work and a few thousands can inflate to P25k if napatiran ka ng belt.

    3) Avoid the sun.

    4) Wash engine regularly so you can spot leaks. No such thing as a normal leak. Pag may leak, may kailangan i-overhaul.

    5) Replace your ECU capacitors. They should be leaking or on their way to leaking by this time. If they leak, electrolytes may damage your pcb.

    6) Clean/replace air cleaner regularly. Sa K&N, once a year ako.

    7) Replace spark plugs and fuel filter as per schedule.

Have echarging system checked for free at any Motolite outlet. Monitor batteries that are over 2 years of age.

    9) Create a "save the gti" contingency fund. Many parts are due for replacement because of the car's age. I always have about P10-20k a month set aside soley for this purpose.

    10) Relax. The Gti is has been a very reliable car under care. The parts replaced are not defects but are really due because of it's age. So prevention is the key to having reliable use.

Also, you can put in all the chassis reinforcements like the front and rear strut-tower bars and lower arm braces if you can find one.

This will lessen chassis flex under load, and help reduce the metal fatigue especially on old cars. It tightens the handling and improves the ride as well.

    Other tips include:

    * When applicable, change the parts to something of better quality; like shocks, get aftermarket shocks like Bilstein when it comes to replacing them. There's a sport and an OE replacement shocks from Bilstein. These will last longer than OE stuff. Same with the brake lines. Get SS lines for better response, less fade and increased durability / reliability

    * Change the rubber vacuum hoses to silicone so they won't corrode over time. Same with the radiator hose. Silicone lasts forever.

    * Have your radiator descaled every 12-18 mos. Its a popular tip from the GTi boys, to eliminate the rust / corrossion formation inside the car's cooling system. This will enable your car's old engine to get ample cooling under load.

    * Watch your fluids; gear-oil, brake-fuid, clutch fluid, power steering fluid and of course engine oil. Flush the brake, clutch and PS fluids if you haven't done it yet. These fluids are very hygroscopic (they absorb water over time) and can dull the response / hydraulic assist and increase effort and also corrode the hydraulic lines / hoses.
