FuelVapor-s alé: a non-guzzling sports-car

Canada-based FuelVapor have managed to create a contradiction of terms: a sports car with low fuel consumption and low emmisions.

A two-seater tandem with 3 wheels, this vehicle combines technology from various existing cars with an unique fuel vapor injector. This way, you get solid performance and extreme mileage in one car.

It’s equipped with a 10 gallon tank, and can drive for 92 miles with just one gallon. Though, it can also reach 60 mph in under 5 seconds and still grip at 1,7G lateral acceleration. Almost too good to be true

Be sure to check the spicy details after the break.

Essentially, this ‘fuel vapor’ technology is just leaning the mixture from 14:1 (air/fuel) to 20:1.

The mix of parts is pretty peculiar. The engine is a 1,5 liter turbocharged Honda, which provides 180hp. The steering rack is transplanted from a Porsche 911, which should give some pretty good precision and a sporty feel. The front suspension also comes from Honda; from a CRX, to be more precise.

Because the car only weighs 1400 lbs (thanks to the light fiberglass body and a strong but lightweight chassis), the 180 hp are enough for a pretty good acceleration, and a 12,5 second quarter-mile run. The car’s speed is electronically limited to 140 miles/hour, which should pretty much be enough. I know for sure that I wouldn’t go faster in a small, 3-wheeled machine.

The designer claims they’ve still got grip at 1,7 lateral G’s, and only using street tires, with the first prototype.
They’ll also enter the car in the Automotive X-Prize.

They are currently looking for manufacturers that will do a limited production run of the car, starting early 2008.

Let's just hope it's not vaporware...

Still, I don't doubt you could get 92 mpg, due to the shape. What will be amazing to see is if that 180 hp engine can really get those numbers, and if the 20:1 ratio will pass strict emissions EURO IV and ULEV emission guidelines.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

    92 miles/gal or 39 kms/lit? pweedeee!

it will be one great car if they can manufacture a four wheel type, kahit 30 kms/lit na lang.
