I just read from the news that our Congress approved a law that mandatory requires all oil companies to blend 5% Ethanol to gasoline, and bring it up to 10% after a year of implementation.
Guy, please post your comment. Is there any effect to the old or to the new engine with this kind of fuel combination? I know for fact that it will be good for our economy since the Ethanol will be produced locally and it will be free from E-VAT, but how about the engine performance for the gasoline users?

Although I am not sure about 5% and 10% blends but it has been observed that 20% blends (E20 gasoline) accelerates internal engine wear. I assume that 5% and 10% will have the same effect but just slower.

Just a bump and an update.

Aida-Sevilla's column in the Inquirer yesterday was quite informative as regards to E5 and E10 blends of ethanol. Apparently, most old cars can't stomach even E5 blends.

And most Euro-4 emissions compatible cars, while safe for E5, will suffer if given E10 blends. Not very many cars are built with E10 in mind... I wonder if the government is doing consultation on this? It has long been my opinion that the government should NOT force gasoline stations to mix ethanol into everything, but to make them serve different blends of ethanol... E10, E5 and premium 95 unleaded (non-eth).

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
