What about a bolt on fuel saving device?

    Forget it.

There are many after market fuel saving devices that claim to save you 50% on fuel, clean the air, eradicate hunger in Africa and get Brad and Jennifer back together. Be afraid. Be very afraid. They work on the premise of introducing more air into the mixture and by bypassing key components in the fuel management system. Wow, why didn’t we think of that?
    parang alam ko 'to ah

The octane rating in Pinas is RON and everywhere else...

In the US it is called Anti Knock Index [AKI=(R+M)/2]...

Please note that the average RON and MON difference in Pinas gasoline is about 10 octane (e.g. RON =95, MON is approx 85)...

The US gasoline is different because of the blend components used (e.g. if RON = 90, MON = 85 or AKI = 87.5 or just about 5 octane difference)...

Meaning even if the RON is 90, the high speed driving power of the car is the same using the MON rating...

    That was a good article

But if you are an expert in the fuel quality you can find some loopholes in some of the statements but the message is clear

Ako din i use Blaze coz its about 97 octane or Caltex 95 or Shell (but never the other brands)..The catch is, who monitors the octane rating? The advertise rating could be less than the octane rating sold...

For others naman a centavo defference a liter is not that much, minsan mas importante na "i need to fill up na" or gusto mo na magpagasolina dahil importante minsan ang oras di ba guys...

on oils naman, napansin ko na mas matipid ang synthetic oil sa gasolina, can anyone explain this...

I know what octane rating is. I just want to know the rating of the gas in the Philippines whether is 95RON, 93RON, etc.

Synthetic oil is more lubricant and has higher viscosity breakdown resistance compared to regular oil that is why you get better mileage when you use it. Also, by using synthetic oil the wear and tear on the internals of your engine is less because of it's viscosity and it's ability to reduce friction, less friction = less resistance when your pistons move in the cylinder.

I'll bet those devices have a better chance of eradicating hunger and bringing Brad and Jennifer back together over saving 50% of your fuel .

There's really lotsa pressure on the local publications to give in to the demands/whims of the manufacturers and sponsors... which is also their lifeline.

Well, with fuel prices going up, the name of the marketing game isnt that of performance anymore, but economy and extended mileage (remember when companies used to push Blaze and Velocity in commercials?).
