    Guys,

Try to do a search for Dr. Rico Cruz, he's a Filipino Scientist based in the U.S. He is claiming that he had made a ccatalys that could make biodiesel in about 6 hours by using used cooking oil. Byproducts are diesel and the ones used in making soap.

His nephew in Leyte (i think) is using it in his diesel engines. This has big potential for the fuel can be made by batching. We can even make it in our own backyards.

I hope he markets his catalyst here in the Philippines...

matagal na yata yan work ni Dr. Cruz, 80's pa yata yan, if it's the same Dr. Cruz that developed the so-called "cruzterification" reaction. crude coco oil yata yung feed nya and nothing special about the catalyst. anyway, just mentioning this fact since I read the report made by a certain mr. or dr. cruz on making bd from crude or waste vo. i might be wrong of course

BTW, a company is already doing conversion for trucks to use WVO as fuel.

    company: BIODRIVE
    contact: "Jac"
    tel: (632) 480 3903
    email: biodriver*gmail.com
    website: http://www.biodrive.net

You can contact him for pricing of his products. He does conversion for the trucks, sells the filtration systems for WVO and even sell processed cooling oil in drums.

Basically, vegetable oil will run a diesel engine. The next important matter to consider is it's effects on the fuel injection pump and injectors.

Pumps and injectors which have been running on vegtable oil for extended duration have been brought to our workshop for evaluation. We have seen metal failure, resin / wax build-up, hardening of rubber seals, etc, in varying degrees of severity. We have also seen an injection pump which was in almost perfect condition.

These people who are experimenting with vege-fuel are serious in developing an alternate fuel source, and their learning cost is quite expensive and time consuming.

They deserve our respect. And I know they will succeed, soon I hope. It's just a matter if time and cost.

no mods needed, bbc uk also covered it. just some additive to cooking oil and a curing period for the chemicals to set it and it performs just like diesel. not really surprising, they're basically downgrading cooking oil to diesel level.

AFAIK, you also have to adjust something in the fuel pump

Diesel engine's used to be called Multi-Fuel engines, if anyone is old enough to remember the old REO's of the WWII era.

Diesel engine's can use any sort of fuel that can combust but there are lubrication issues to the injection pump.

    Disclaimer:
I only remember the REO's because we used to sell truck parts(U.S. pa ang uso nun, not Japanese) when I was in kindergarten, not because naabutan ko ang WWII. ;)

Yup, used cooking oil (ang dami nyan sa mga restaurants) can be treated with an additive and after letting it stand for a few days will be useable as fuel in a stock diesel engine.

Costs will be much cheaper than diesel since mura lang yung used cooking oil. Also, yung exhaust mo will smell like french fries.

    :-)

yup. cooking oil can be used as fuel to diesel engines. Downside, if you are hungry, you might find yourself thinking of french fries more often than before. hehehe

I assumed refined muna ito. Not just plain cooking oil. Dahil medyo matagal or mas mataas kingling temp yata nito...

On TV there was a car shown where it's engine was designed to run on unmodified used cooking oil. All that was done was to filter out all the food bits from the oil and thats it.

so you might find yourself eating more fried chicken & french fries in the near future just so you can get enough used cooking oil to run your car? hehehe

Although I didn't see the show, I think what you guys are talking about is biodiesel, it's made from used or new vegetable oil that's been processed, so that it can be used by regular diesel engines.

You can also modify diesel engines so that it can take vegetable oil straight from the bottle or just filter used oil. but it's an expensive modification.

Imagine going to the grocery store to fill up your car, or going to a sari-sari store, "pabili ho nga ng bagiuo oil, naubusan ako ng gas e", baka batukan ka nung tindera
