Hey! I'm in the hunt for a small SUV for my wifey, maybe by yearend.

I've considered other brands and models and it went down to these 2, budgetwise and 4x4.

I'm in love with the Subaru, but, due to it's single dealership and the fact that I live in San Pablo, Laguna makes it difficult for me. Maybe, if Motorimage would just open one in Alabang.

Nissan would be no problem coz there's a delership here.

Would the Xtrail 250x be the perfect substitute?

Both would have the same fuel consumption, advanced 4x4 system, very good safety features, and comfortable ride.

The Xtrail would be more powerful but the style is already 5 years old.

The FXT would have been perfect except for the price.

    What do you think?

Subaru pero sayang ang layo ng Laguna. It would mean you'll have to travel here every 10,000kms (kasi nakakapagod pag every 5kms so mag Full Syn ka na para 10K).

Malakas sa petrol ang Xtrail pero yun nga, ok naman dealership.

Personally, I'd go for Subaru but since wala pa ang Boxer Diesel dito, I'd go for CRV or KIA Sportage.

The advantage of going for unpopular models (i.e. Subaru and Korean or anything else not japanese) is the safety from the eye of carjackers/carnappers esp since it's for the wife.

It all boils down to what is more important to you. Performance or Convenience?

X-Trail 250x is a good choice even when compared to the Forester. Just slap on a nice set of alloy wheels and you will get major pogi points on the X-Trail.

[SIZE=3]Obviously, I`d pick the Subie FXT, yes the dealer is quite far but you wont need to go there and go back to your hometown normally, you`d just do that for like more or less 2 months? So that wouldnt be a problem. Just think that you are driving a forester that is way way much cooler than the X-trail

    IMO though

Hindi lang daw yung single dealership ang problema, price din. So basically it's the X-Trail 250 vs Forester X ... tama ba?

If I knew when the new model 250 is coming out and I can wait for it, I'd wait. If I had to make a decision now, I'd get the Forester X and do bolt-on mods and tuning.

Galing ng FXT but if it's out of budget, I say restrain yourself.

    Thanks guys!

I'm not in a hurry, anyway. I told my wife that, maybe, a diesel forester would come out by 2010 and if the price is less than the FXT, then it would be our next car. But, if the X-trail would put out a new 2010 model, then the choice would, again, be difficult.

So it all boils down to convenience vs lust. Where do I give in?

    Number 1 or number 2?

    Just my 2 cents...

Have you ask your wife what ride she wants?......other than the two mentioned?

Lust will only get you so far. Think of the possible day you have to take it to the casa for service or repair. Would you want to drive across metro manila for a service or simply drop in at Nissan Alabang? How much free time do you have to simply drop off or pickup the vehicle? It is a vehicle she would be using and not the weekend toy. Something more practical would be better.

Xtrail is my choice, too. It looks small but is a very capable 4x4. I also like the subtle but nice exterior and the roofrail foggies is a nice touch . Interior is not bad either. I place higher priority on convenience with aftersales support than looks.

Yes, of course. She likes the Xtrail due to the boxy hood which makes it easier for her to estimate her distance from other cars or obstacles. But, she also likes the overall design of the Forester especially the face.

    Ghosthunter,

Maybe you're right. I, practically, just leave my car to the dealer for PMS, go home, then come back to pick it up after they text me. San Pablo is a small city, so, all the dealers are just nearby.

My only chance then to have the Forester is if MI would branch out to Alabang.....sheeeesh

looks like more help is on the way...

Motor Image will be opening new dealerships not only in Metro Manila, but also in other regions in the country. This year, it is looking to open new Subaru dealers in south of Manila and Cebu City to complement its lone dealer in San Juan. Despite having only one dealership, Subaru has managed to attract customers from different parts of the country including Ilocos, Cebu, Iloilo and Davao to name a few. This reflects the growing popularity of Subaru and its trademark symmetrical all wheel drive technology which is perfectly suited for the country's various terrains and weather conditions.
Motor Image will also continue to strengthen its after-sales support operations by increasing its inventory of genuine Subaru parts and accessories. With a regional support network from Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan, Subaru owners are guaranteed a continuous and on-time availability of parts and accessories ensuring an enjoyable and worry-free ownership experience. The service technicians of Motor Image are likewise given regular trainings in the Subaru Academy in Singapore and its headquarters in Japan.

Guess we know what the heart desires eh? hehehe.

PS -- Test drive them both. For me, the only big drawback to the Xtrail is if you just bought one and a new one comes out right away. Medyo masaklap yun lalo kung di ka in lust in the first place. It might end in a nasty divorce.

Kaya I suggest you wait either for the new 250 to come around (it's been a while after all) or the new MI branch to be put up.

Alam ko malapit na ito kasi end of last year pa pina plano na nila ito. Now that they have way more sales, I'm sure it'll be soon.

Also, if it's out of budget, don't make the mistake of test driving the FXT. Puwede naman bolt-on mods sa 2.0 eh.

buti kung one day affair lang ang pms or service. minsan back jobs pa.
mas aalagaan ka ba in terms of servicing kung sa local dealership ka bumili?
mas magagaling ba servicemen sa metro manila dealerships?

For me, I dont like Foresters design.

Interirors of both cars are practicaly the same including performance.

    Ill go for X-trail.

Xtrail 250x vs Forester 2.0 only
