From a budget of roughly 1M for a compact car, are you seriously considering the Santa Fe at 1.7M?

Anyway, if I had to rank them:

    1. Subaru Forester XT
    2. Mazda CX-5 2.0 Pro
    3. Subaru Forester 2.0i
    4. Nissan X-Trail 2.5 4x4
    5. Toyota RAV4 2.5 Base
    6. Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLS-V
    7. Hyundai Santa Fe GLS
    8. Mitsubishi Montero Sport GLX
    9. Nissan X-Trail 2.0 4x2
    10. Honda CR-V 2.4 LX
    11. Mitsubishi ASX
    12. Subaru XV

Forester or CX-5 for me. You can also add the new Escape with its Ecoboost engines on your list of options.

Why not consider something from Kia? It is practically the same as Hyundai vehicles as they are sister companies. The Sorento 4x2 CRDi is a steal for its price, as well as the Sportage CRDi.

Well I'm gonna trim down my lists to one after reading comments/reviews for every car.

CX-5 & Forester(pricier since its american brand) was very appealing to me since then.

Well, Don't like the Kia's design. not that very eye-catching to me unlike Subaru's & Hyundai's.
Though I might gonna check those reviews to the kia's car. I might consider as well the Interior/features.
The same as through as the Ford's Car, except the mustang, ^_^

Have you tried/owned it? Since it's a diesel engine, what about the engine noise?

Mazda (CX5) and Subaru (Forester) are both Japanese car manufacturers.

The new CRDi engines are not as loud as older diesel engines. The Korean CRDi diesels are quite good. The German diesels are even better (you'd be surprised at how subtle those 320Ds, 530Ds, A4 TDI's, or A6 TDI's sound in low crawling traffic or cruising in triple digit speeds in the highway).

Yup, I have a 2 week old Tucson on my driveway.

I was hell bent on getting a 3.0 4x4 Fortuner earlier this year. But close comparison in the options list favored the Korean brand, not to mention the arithmetic side of things (more bang for your buck).

    Good luck on your decision.

Which did you choose? Hmmm, I assume you went the whole 9 yards and got the Forester XT instead.

oops, I thought I was thinking about the Ford company. haha..
Well tucson before was my first choice, but then Subaru and I met.

Hahaha.. I may consider Tucson to be on my list if that is the case.
Im gonna check the diesel tucson on youtube videos.

But against over Subaru and Mazda,I think you prefer Subaru though its pricier.

    Based on looks for me

First would be either of this 2:
    1. Subaru XV - I really like the sporty look of the XV. Reminds me of a Batmobile haha (If 5 seater)
    1. Mitsubishi Montero Sports - that aggressive sporty stance is what I like. Overall value for money. (If you need a 7 seater)

    Next would be:
    3. Nissan X-Trail -
    4. Mazda CX-5 -
    5. Toyota Rav4

Last - a lot of good reviews aswell for this group, just not my type.
    6. Honda CR-V -
    7. Subaru Forester
    8. Mitsubishi ASX
    9. Hyundai Santa Fe

    5. RAV4
    6. ASX
    7. MS
    8. CRV
    9. X-Trail

and oh, a Tiguan and the Touareg would be very nice....

Agree with the sorento. You have the power of that 2.0 sedan, utility because of the cargo space, frugality of diesel and higher height vs sedan. Sta fe sana pero ang mahal. Kaya eto na lang na twin nya

Not considering the M/T Santa Fe? It's 200k cheaper than the matic variant. You get better gas mileage and performance too.

I really wouldn't want to consider gas fed CUVs for daily driving, especially if it involves heavy traffic. Diesels are way better in the fuel cost department and have improved much in terms of performance and NVH.

We have a 2011 Santa Fe R eVGT. Clatter and vibration characteristic of a diesel is still mildly perceptible though, personally, not to the point of discomfort. Same goes true for our 2013 Strada GLS-V. Both load up solely with Unioil Euro 4 Diesel and I've never seen any black smoke. We really love the diesels, especially since fuel consumption doesn't seem to rise much with lead footed driving, while still giving the same amount of satisfaction as our gas-fed cars, if not more.

The CX-5 Pro currently has a 99k All-In DP Promo or 100k discount. Might swing your decision a bit.

Yep, 99k all-in DP plus the usual free LTO registration, 1 year insurance, and chattel mortgage. The monthly ammortization is around 30k for 60 months.
