April 19th, 2009 11:55 AM #1i know, i know, this is an aged old topic but did a search and the results were dated so please help.
what's a good, reliable FIRST CAR for a student for around P150K? budget is flexible but would rather keep it low since it'll be sold/replaced after a year. kumbaga, pampraktis car lang to pero syempre dapat di magbibigay ng sakit ng ulo at mura ipa-repair since malamang masasabit lang yun! hehehe.
thanks in advance!

lancer 96 and up (EL for fuel consideration, GLXI for performance), swak sa budget mo, even lesser, use the rest for after sales expenses (expect minimal repairs and fixes that suit your taste).
Check the car with your trusted mechanic (eg. engine, underchassis, etc.)
I sounded bias, I owned mitsus kasi, but i tried others and compared...

I would suggest an AE89 Corolla GL 16valve. It's rather cheap to buy (within your budget) and relatively cheap to maintain. The 1.6L carb 4AF engine is responsive and rated at 90+hp when new. Parts are still plentiful as original, replacement and surplus. This car is also easy to upgrade for better performance with engine swaps, brake & suspension upgrades easy to find.
There is also at least two major Toyota car clubs in Metro Manila so it is possible to join one or both for help in future mods or repairs.
Try finding one with no rust and good clean interior with minimal cracks and signs of wear&tear. A good place to start is also with the car clubs as some current members might be selling their prized rides for bigger or newer cars.

April 20th, 2009 12:39 PM #6thanks for the inputs guys! keep em coming.
test-drove a stock 93 Corolla GLi big body. owner's selling for P120K pero di lumalamig ang A/C pag trapik (which is almost always!) at pumapasok yung amoy/usok from the outside, etc. will have it checked by a mechanic soon.
is this a good buy or dya know of a better unit?

Be careful with channels like "China Observer" on YouTube. There is a clear bias in their posts and...
