    Hi Subject Matter experts,

i'm new here and i would like to seek your expert advise.
Gusto ko bumili ng second hand car, and recently I have options na Nissan sentra 05 manual, all power (245k) and honda city 01 manual, all power (235k) both in good condition.

    Questions:

    1. are the price right for each of the car? or may nag-dedeviate from the normal price range?
    2. i heard that honda is more fuel effecient than nissan, sobrang layo ba ng difference?
    3. if engine performance and durability ang paguusapan, alin ang mas recommended nyo?
    4. overall, alin mas dapat ko piliin sa 2?

Thanks in advance. I'm hoping na makakuha ako ng feedback sa nyo kasi both cars are up for sale. and sana hindi pa late bago ako makadecide.

Which variant of the City are you looking at? LXi, EXi or VTi? The price is quite reasonable if they are in good condition but you can always try your best to lower the price. In all variants, the City is more fuel efficient than the Sentra since it is a manual and has a better power to weight ratio considering that the LXi City has the same power output as the Sentra GX but is much lighter at less than 1000kgs. For performance, of course lamang ang Honda dito. If the City is in good condition and mileage isn't exceedingly high, I'd get the City. But for 235k, VTi dapat yan.

Kahit mas malakas sa gas ang Sentra (6-7km/l daw) go for the GX kasi current body pa rin kahit papaano at mas bago pa compared sa city.

Ang 2001 City 2 generations older na at 10 years old na rin yan kung iisipin mo. We were about to sell our 1999 Civic Vti A/T for 230k kaso na-carnap pa eh back in 2007. So parang namamahalan ako sa presyo ng City.

Fuel economy aside you have to look at the age & condition of the cars. Older cars will need more maintenance to keep running. And that can get expensive quickly, outstripping the savings from better gas mileage.

So given that, I would prefer to choose the 2005 Sentra GX over the 2001 City.

Is that the facelifted/gen2/i-Style (whatever they call it) Sentra GX?

If that's the one with the QG13DE engine, then that's fairly fuel efficient enough.

First things first. May kotse ba ang mga officemates mo? Kung meron anong kotse ba?

Baka talagang Honda fanboys lang talaga sila. I admit pag brand new I would get a Honda no doubt.

May mga konting nag-taxi kaso di kinaya ung fuel consumption, so dami talagang parts. Tsaka isipin mo bulok na yung City noong 2005, brand new pa yung GX nun. Lastly, I would pick a 6-year old compact than any 10 year old car lalo na subcompact baka super nasulit na yun ng dating owner.

    Who knows cars better?

Casual officemates or people who live and breath cars?

We dont just look at the brand, we looking into the cars themselves.

i was a honda fanboy once... like 7 years ago...

now, unless talagang napaka ganda nung bagong model at may sapat na pera ako, i would probably never buy a honda again. o kaya kahit 2nd hand.

prices are somewhat high for the amount of kit you get with hondas. they say you pay for the badge and the build quality and style... but in my experience, they break at around the same time as other brands... sometimes even earlier (i've had to rebuild my 99 and 01 civic/crv suspensions twice... yung 99 corolla ni misis na pang araw araw namin hanggang ngayon walang kalampag).

Besides the age, there are also some other elements to consider like the mileage of both cars, condition of the exterior/interior, if there is a need already to replace various parts, and most importantly the condition, performance and fuel mileage of the engine. Also to include into consideration is where you will use the car. Is it mainly for city driving? Will it usually be running highway kilometers? Will you always be going to provinces, especially those that involve mountain climbing with this car?

sir, pinatignan ko yung nissan and the milage is quite high. 110k na because the owner is a sales man. binebenta na nya dahil may new issued car na ulit sya. compared sa honda na tinignan ko na 80k lang ang mileage. but the nissans' engine is in very good condition, casa maintained and amoy bago (i don't know if that comment would matter)

sirs, magbabago ba decision nyo dahil sa taas ng mileage ng nissan?

ang alam ko pag issued car laging sa casa ang pagawa diyan kaya siguradong asa condition yan.

mga sir.. as far as this thread goes.. mukhang nissan wins the challenge.

even if mataas mileage nya (nissan: 110k+, honda: 90k+), the fact na casa maintained sya, ok na rin?

ang pinakaimportante lang naman kasi sakin, yung hindi ako matitirikan sa gitna ng daan in 5 years time at hindi costly ang pag-maintain..

sana may humabol pa ng feedback..

You won't go wrong with the Nissan.

I had both brands and hands down ako dun.

Although ok din ang Honda, half-crazy idea lang talaga yung sky-high resale value nila.

IMO chief go for the Nissan! If it's really casa maintained, then, there should be records proving it.
