Of course I chose the (2006) Sonata. I have one.![]()
I had the privilege to compare it side by side with the previous generation (2005) Sonata. The new car is much better in every way, especially performance.
I've also had the chance to test drive a host of other mid-sized sedans including the Mazda6 V6, Nissan Altima 3.5SE, Honda Accord V6, Camry V6, Pontiac G6, Chevy Malibu Maxx, Grand Prix GTP.
The 3.3L Sonata ended with the best blend of luxury and sportiness. Yeah sure, Hyundai has a reputation of mediocrity to shake off. But after seeing a 2004 Nissan Altima 3.5SE being towed away and even a late model Camry at the road side with hood open, I quit relying on reputation. I went and test drove each car, examined closely the interior and mechanicals, price, plus whatever appealed to my wife.
It came down to the automatic Mazda6 and the Sonata. What tipped it over for the Sonata was the excellent room in the back which the Misis loved. To me it's the new engine. It's no Evo. Not by a long shot. But it's no slouch either. I have a pissed-off SVT Focus driver and a surprised 5.0 Stang GT driver as witnesses. "Yes, it's a stinkin Hyundai, and I love it!" Imagine it with a supercharger...... Yummy.

As a pure driver's car, I agree. For sheer driving pleasure, the Mazda6 V6 was my favorite. Ayaw nga lang ng asawa. Masikip daw sa likod (???).....Originally Posted by umzzzzz

yung Lumina sana dito yung Holden Commodore based. 33 units lang pala nabenta nila last year. Hay nako GM Phils, kelan ba kayo magigising?
I thought Azera was a full-sized car and therefore, excluded. It belongs with the Toyota Avalon and the latest model Nissan Maxima.
didn't realize how much the new sonata looks like the new accord from the back side.
You mean the 2005 Accord. It has similarites although the Sonata's rear end appeals a lot more to me. I don't really like the new 2006 Accord's rear end. The front of the Hyundai has similarities to a Lexus IS while the profile has an Audisque profile.Originally Posted by M54 Powered

Speaking of rear ends, the 2006 Accord's triangular tailights look almost straight out of a 2002 Mercury Cougar's. Like I said, most new cars nowadays have features that look similar to other cars.
my 1st choice would be mazda6 - for the real zoom zoom factor specially the awd mazdaspeed with a turbocharged, direct-injected 2.3-liter inline four-cylinder engine, churning out 274hp and 280 lb/ft torque.
runner-up would be sonata - hindi lang pampamilya, pang sports pa!![]()
Wala bang Volkswagen sa Pilipinas? Sayang...... They make excellent midsize sedans in the Jetta and maybe even the Passat. Or how about mid-sized cars besides the Japanese, Koreans, and Americans?
Or, how about the upscale mid-size sedans like Acura, Infiniti, Lexus? The aforementioned Volks, Audi, M-B, Volvo, Saab?
Well, I mean they make mid-sized sedans too, right?
The mid-sized market is the toughest and most competitive car segment ever, at least here.

There is a VW dealership in Pasong Tamo. Beetle, Beetle cabrio, Touareg and Caravelle ang mga nasa line-up nila. They sold the Golf and Bora (Jetta in the US) before pero hindi nag-click. They even sold the previous gen, China mde Passat and suffered the same fate with the Golf and Bora.Originally Posted by Jun aka Pekto
Lexus dealership will be up within the year in Fort Bonifacio. No Saab here but I hope GM can bring them. Audi through PGA cars, Volvo by Scandinavian Motors and MB by CATS. Nissan Philippines sold the Infiniti Q45 here almost a decade ago.
The only asian (I think) country that carries the Acura brand is Hong Kong though Honda Japan is planning to bring the Acura brand to their homeland sometime in 2008. Nissan is also planning to bring the Infiniti badge to Japan too. Lexus has invaded Japan.

All current and recent VWs sold here were overpriced, thats the reason they don't sell well here.Originally Posted by carlocaraddict
The 115 hp 2000 VW Bora(Jetta) 2.0 was a lot more expensive than the larger mid-size sedans sold during that time.
Initially they sold the German made Passat here(1.8T and 2.3 V5), then later it was replaced by the LWB version made by Shanghai-VW(1.8 and 1.8T). The Probmlem? The Chinese version was priced almost the same as the German version, in other words it was still expensive compared to other larger engined mid-size sedans being sold here.
A year ago, GM mentioned that they were considering selling the Cadillac luxury brand here in the future, I guess because the brand is more popular here than Saab. ...Of course there hasn't been any recent update yet.Originally Posted by carlocaraddict

I would say Mazda6 if it were just me, but considering the wife and kid, maybe an Accord 3.0 or a *gasp* Camry 2.4... they're both ultra-quiet at cruising speeds and have big interiors. I'm leaning more towards the Accord because it can carve pretty well.
The Hyundai Sonata is also a pretty good choice. The Cefiro? Give me a US Market 5-speed SE version (Maxima), and I'll buy it. Now. Who cares how old it is?
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
I'd choose mazda6 nice car both in looks and performance, accord in 2nd, camry third..Galant ugly front (imo) maybe next time..cefiro/maxima, sonata i'll take it if they give it..RAV4? Fortuner? (SUV) totally different case for me.
