hello po mga sirs, we're looking at buying a quality used car by the end of the year and we're thinking if it's either a 1st gen CRV (around 390k) or 2nd gen Rav4 (500k-520k)...ano pong mas ok between them in terms of:

    1. FC
    2. Reliability (spare parts, etc)
    3. Ride Comfort

    thanks po talaga!

rav 4 din for me. FC nakaka 8-9 yata sa hiway. dont know if its true pero sabi nila lumalaklak daw ng gaso ang crv. not sure. pero sa 1st gen crv, mas gwapo pa 2nd gen rav 4

1st gen CRV gives average FC figures.

2nd gen CRV is a gas guzzler.

sa 3 things na hinahanap mo, pareho lang yun dalawa ang advantage lang ng RAV4 is mas bagong model...

FC-I was averaging 10+km/ltr on my Gen 1 CRV then
parts kahit saan meron na rin mabibilhan, hinde na totoo yun pag Toyota maraming mabibilhan, pantay na lahat ng car brand ngayon when it comes to spare parts..
ride comfort, wala naman problema sa Gen 1 CRV

yun sinasabi ni Tidus eh baka Gen 2 CRV, which is a gas guzzler and have a bad ride comfort but sa Gen 1 CRV walang ganun problema

FC bet the 1st gen CRV and 2nd Gen Rav4 is just about the same. Unless you get the 1.8 manual Rav. Ride comfort goes to the CRV gen1. Reliability syempre goes to the newer model. Interior space wise the crv is more spacious.

thanks guys for the inputs! yep, m getting a manual variant for my ride. hirap po ba pag 2nd hand na automatic for both CRV and RAV4? natatakot kc ako baka sakit sa ulo eh...unlike manual na madali ayusin...that's only for me po...but what do you think?

yung unang labas na gen2 na 10 seater yan yung matagtag pra daw iaccomodate yung bigat ng 10 people. gas guzzler nga yung DOHC engine ng gen2.

I previously owned a 1st gen CRV, and now own a 2nd gen Rav4. My inputs below:

    1. FC - I give it a slight advantage towards the gen2 Rav4.
    2. Reliability - I would say a tie.
parts cost - a slight advantage again for the gen2 Rav4.
    3. ride comfort - smoother ride yung gen1 CRV
ride handling, cornering, acceleration, braking - definitely the gen2 Rav4.

    others:
interior space - bigger space for the gen1 CRV.

Both are great and fun rides. Good luck in your SUV pick.

abcerase, both my Rav4 and CRV (then) are matics. Just my preference for daily rides. For the Rav4, have no porblems with the matic tranny at all.

The 2nd gen Rav4 is one of the lightest, if not the lightest 5dr SUV sold locally, kaya hindi hirap ang makina, tranny, suspensions, and brakes nito. So if you could find a 2nd hand na low mileage, kept stock, and driven normally by the owner, chances are in great condition pa mga makina and tranny nito, matic man o manual.

So it would probably just boil down to your personal driving preference to use a manual or matic. If you choose a manual, there is even the 1.8li 4x2 version gen2 Rav4 (sold 2003-2005), even lighter than the 2.0li version, so expect even better FC. It just has a few exterior differences such as no roof rail, no fender flairs, and thinner/taller tires, than the 2.0li 4x4 version.

If comfort is what you prefer then yes, an A/T Rav4 is perfect for you. But may I remind you that there are problems about A/T trannies esp. on second hand cars due to its wear-and-tear.

abcerase, yup should be ok pa naman ang '01-'02 models both for Rav4 or the CRV. Try to find one, hopefully below 100tkm pa. Make sure to test drive both rin, so you could have a feel of what fits you most. For both rin, parts were readily available at the casas or from known Banawe shops, else they could quickly order it from the local plants.
