anu mas masaya i drive??![]()
mas gusto ko Lynx. ganda handling. probably it feels lighter than the Civic.
The Lynx has more communicative steering, more torque and a stiffer set-up and better tires.
The Civic 1.8 has steering that's just as sensitive (but kind of numb), a nice peaky engine, and a relatively light body. The shifter and clutch are better than the Lynx's. Unfortunately, suspension tuning isn't as good, and it rolls a bit too much. If you're looking for a fun ride, the Jazz 1.5 is actually much better, even if it feels like you're driving a video-game (steering is just as artificial).
The Lynx will beat the Civic in a straight line. The Civic might have a better launch (still have to test this), but the Lynx has better midrange power, which means it'll still be faster in a drag race, and it'll be much quicker in traffic.
Personally, I enjoy the Lynx more, as it talks to you better and gives you more feedback. It's so nimble that you often feel like the car is over-rotating. But the Civic would probably be easier to drive in traffic. The Lynx's clutch is uncommunicative, and hot traffic makes the gearbox grouchy. The body is stiff, but feels lightweight (most of the RS's weight difference compared to the GSi (1235 kg vs 1170(?) is due to the iron-block engine) and sounds tinny over rough roads.
The Civic is much more fuel efficient. The best I can do in the Lynx (hey, new record!) is about 13.5 km/l, but this is on the NLEX at low speeds. At home, in the south, the best I've managed is 12 km/l, 8-9 km/l is my average in traffic (7 km/l for really bad rush-hour stuff), and 9.5-10 km/l at highway speeds (when NOT trying to save gas). That's about as good as an old 1.6... but the new Civic 1.8 supposedly does up to 15 km/l driven moderately, and up to 10 km/l in traffic. So it's no contest there.
The Lynx is a very fun car, and I use it as a daily driver, but make no mistake, it's not for everyone. You've got to be patient with the gears, and tolerant of the ride (it's not AUV-bad, but it's not something you want to take off-road) and cognizant of the fact that maintenance and resale value aren't strong points of the car... and that you can't tune it for mad power like an SiR.
But since you're considering it secondhand... go ahead... at the same price as a comparable condition SiR, and with ABS, EBD, dual airbags, with a CD-changer and sunroof... it's a steal.![]()
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
just my 2 cents
i dont like the Civic's kinda light feeling shifter... most people says (and i felt it too) that the shifter is effortless, very light. for me i like gearboxes that are kinda crisp shifting that you'll feel the cogs engaging....(Sentras are like that)
its (the Civic's) very anti-Corolla gearbox which is noisy, scratchy but i dont enjoy it that much.
test drive both and judge for yourself, some people might find it fun to drive a certain car, and some people might also find that it's not fun to drive (that certain car).
p.s. senxa na i'm not a master of grammars so correct me if its wrong![]()
Well, better a light and scratchy shifter than one that'll grind on you if you push it too hard. The Lynx RS shifter has to be massaged into place, with a fluid motion. If you shove it into the gears "fast and furious" style, it'll just complain.
Hehe... if you drive the cars for yourself up to Tagaytay, it's no contest. The Lynx will win your heart.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
well, as the saying goes... "quality is seen through the eyes of the customer". and in this forum, the drivers are the customers. i've driven both and though i'm just a regular everyday driver, my vote goes to the 2006 1.8 civic.
Like I said, not for everyone. For me, I'm awfully tempted by the new Civic, but after the test-drive, I'm not convinced... not enough to justify selling the Ford.
But as regards to pormahan... who says the Lynx isn't maporma? Old school maybe, but not ugly... hey!![]()
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
Hehe... oo nga. But with the RS, you don't really need a body-kit anymore, just rims.![]()
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
I'm dissappointed after I test drive the new civic... I didn't felt the 1.8 MT & AT power and the handling not hugz the road.. comfort is ok... when I turn on the sound system well parang mas ok ang ES & EK audio.
I don't like the sidings and the seat materials... tipid meals talaga all 1.8 variat (e.g no fog lamp)
Well my vote goes to Lynx RS... matagtag but it hugz the road. with Fog, skirt, rear spoiler, cool sporty seat & steering wheel... sun/moon roof.. sasakyan mo nalang
mas masaya idrive yung RS. test drive lang naman pareho, but you can already get the idea.
RS lynx seems very sturdy and has better torque. On potholes, the Lynx has this 'thug' sound and feels rubberry - the car really dampened the potholes very well. It's not like Altis soft but it's like you know you hit something, hehe. maybe NIKY can explain this better.
The Civic, we'll it feels fast and smooth, but you wont feel any sportiness in it - compared to the Lynx. I couldnt push the car to do more as it's just a few weeks old and it's not mine hehe. This one has more guts that the SIR (in real world driving), but still Lynx feels faster.
Been checking Lynx RS in car exchanges hehe - ave price for a 2004 is 550K.
Lynx RS.
One of the most fun (if not the best) to drive and affordable vehicles available here in Manila.
Wonderful chassis... torquey engine... manual tranny... sticky tires... good aero kit... nice aesthetic touches...
The Lynx's damping is actually very good for such a stiff vehicle... and it's only if you go over large humps that you'll feel it move very far, vertically. A lot of people are surprised that it rides so well, and nobody has ever complained that it's "tagtag".
What I meant by that "tinny" feeling is that even though you don't feel bumps so much, you certainly do hear them. And the doors close with a "thunk" rather than a "thump".
It's hard to explain the difference, like an0nim0us says, it's only something you can feel when you drive them both. I've driven my car back-to-back with an SiR... and while I found the SiR's high-speed performance exhilirating, the steering felt numb, the chassis understeered and plowed more through corners (despite being lowered) and the low speed torque was horrible. (try punching an SiR from a standing start without slipping the clutch... you'll understand).
Ibang-iba lang talaga ang feel ng Lynx. I've test-driven everything new, from the Focus to the Civic to the Jazz, and I've found little satisfaction.
The Hyundai Getz/Accent has a stiff but not sporty suspension, and numb steering, but the CRDi engine is a gem, revving like a gas engine and with more torque than any 2.0. Heck, if I was ever to get a back-up for the Lynx, the Accent's on my list just for that engine.
The Civic and Jazz handle sharply, and are both very quick, but they don't tell you much about what's going on... and yes, the Civic rolls a bit too much.
The Altis is nice and stiff, and handles okay, but the steering is just limp and uninvolving. Drive and forget.
The Mazda3 and 6 have good steering feel and good handling, but they're not as fast. If they ever come in manual, they'd be on my list.
The Focus handles very well, but the steering isn't as direct, and the car feels heavy... and like the Mazda, it's not as fast.
The Focus 1.6 feels almost right. It steers well, handles well and it doesn't feel too heavy, and the shifting action of the cute "stubby" is much better than in the Lynx RS. I had lots of fun in it at the rally test drive... But it's definitely dog slow.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
same here.. my previuos car is 2000 SIR.. ibang klase talaga at wala ka ng masabi pag na reach nya 5500 above RPM.. iba talaga ang power -- malufet. ingat lang sa pag brake "hinay hinay ang tapak" para hindi mag locked. handling *highspeed ok naman pero iba pa rin and Lynx RS plus sa stop and go iba ang RS vs other common sedan car -- torquey kasi RS![]()
