    jovanne,

The CVT has been around with Honda for the City and Jazz since 2001. Medyo tried and tested na ito. So far, it works like a charm. You feel the gradual acceleration just like an airplane. Plus, if your in a playful mode, it has the 7-speed mode wherein you could shift it manually, just like a video game.

We are also probably going to make the choice between Vios 1.3E MT and City 1.3S MT very soon...

I'm leaning towards the City because:

    1) More space. The trunk is just huge, and can be extended with the ULT seats.
    2) 10K PMS interval.
    3) There's no Toyota dealership in my province.
    4) The gauges are where they should be, not center-mounted like on the Vios.
    5) The 1.3 i-dsi engine is probably more reliable since it's quite low-tech: SOHC with only 8 valves, and no variable valve timing mechanism.
    6) The EPS electric power steering is probably more reliable since there's nothing to leak, etc.

Are those points valid? Or am I mistaken?

    what do you mean low-tech?..

yes it has 8valves but every piston has 2 sparkplugs...a total of 8 sparks
imagine how fuel efficient this engine can be..

it has variable timing, but not on the valve....sa sparkplug naman..

In all fairness to Toyota, we got our test drive. Finally today.

    Final verdict ---

the issues I mentioned above are:
    1) excusable in the case of the gearshift. Clutch is ok. Gearshift is a little tight
    2) the "kabig" is not noticeable...maybe I didn't get to drive it fast enough. Hanggang

Over-all feel is comfortable too. Middle console is kinda "nakakapanibago" pero it takes
getting used to. Steering is okay. Handling and ride as well. Medyo makitid din ang shoulder
clearance between the two front seats pero okay lang...kame lang naman ni misis most of the time
Malakas at mabilis talaga.

I'm giving the Toy SA till 30th of this month to hack out a unit. Then it's go for vios
(considering the difference in the prices between the two). But if by then, there's still no unit
    available, then the price increase of Toyota and the promo of the Honda will make them on even grounds;
it'll be well worth going with the city. I also stand to lose the promo of the city by month's end.
    Sayang yon. So there.

Thanks to all for the helpful info.

No it's not low-tech per se, it just doesn't have those vvti or vtec things that add complexity (and performance) to an engine.

With those 8 spark plugs is it safe to say that the City is more fuel-efficient than the Vios? By how much?

Saka talagang maingay........yung sounds dahil 4 speakers sya.he he

    Oz's right 1.5 vtec has 15"

Number, the 1.3 "A" has 13" steel (correct) pero 1.3 "S" already has 14" (alloy tama) and not 13".

Other little things --- third brake light, side moldings/protectors, fog lamps...wala lahat yon sa 1.3 na tingin ko meron sa 1.5

Pero siguro ang tanong ni knicks e more on the engine...tama yong specs ni number. Laki difference. Kaya laki din diff sa presyo

jaivin, afaik vios vvti has timing belt (anyone correct me kung mali).

add ko pa (sorry hinanap ko pa url kaya nag double post pa ko)...

    http://asia.vtec.net/Series/FitJazz/lseries/index.html

sabe ng iba parang backward yong features ng i-DSI (with its SOHC, 8-valve, chain). I also thought so. Pero to learn the minds behind the design, check the addy above. Pati vtec, may discussion don.

ok yung torque curve nung 1.3 ah... parang diesel. peak torque at only 2800rpm!
i think that would help the drivability a lot kahit mas mababa yung hp.

so park ako, off radio at a/c. hintay sa misis.
Maya maya, paalis na kame. Muntik ko uli ma crank engine ko (buti na lang hindi). kung saka sakali, ang sakit nong grinding sound it would have created.
