If you want everything casa original, then go for the E. The J would bring a Banawe/Araneta regular lots of joy though. Top of the line engine with a blank canvas! [emoji38]

but you can bring your blank canvas to banawe, and have them install the equivalent goodies, at a fraction of the cost...
but yes, there are buyers who like the hecho-derecho look of the casa.
i'm one of them.
my non-negotiables are power locks and windows. and i believe the J already has them...

^Yep, and even the rear window wiper. I think it has all the features the previous gen E variant used to have, sans the alloy wheels.

^It wouldn't be financially wise for Toyota to develop a separate unibody platform just for the Innova, when it could just base it on the same basic platform as the Hilux and Fortuner. Though Toyota does have a unibody MPV called the Wish which is very popular in Taiwan, but only comes with a gas engine.

IMHO using a ladder frame for the Innova does have its benefits. The Innova is still a utility vehicle. The tough underpinnings mean longer lasting suspension components especially under heavy duty use, which Metro Manila traffic basically always is. Tackling poorly made or unpaved provincial roads with it also gives more peace of mind as compared to, say, our LWB Carnival.

well you can have tough suspension on a monocoque also. it's all about how tough you build the suspension bits for a monocoque vehicle

so it makes me wonder if innova would theoretically be better off as a monocoque. coz it's just being used as a family vehicle. nothing demanding at all that would require a ladder frame. it would make the innova lighter so have better fuel economy, better performance etc. and easier for the grandparents to get in/out of

but of course i understand the economics of shared platforms. but as a consumer i don't really care what makes good business sense for toyota LOL i mean they're already the #1 car maker. i just want a car that's optimized for the job that it's going to do i.e. not be overbuilt, or have a ladder frame that it may or may not need
