TD27 for the epic win. Kasi kahit yung TD25 lang ng Eagle napaabot ng 165km/h ng erpat ko...that was back in 1997 or '98. 4 kaming sakay.

4JA1? Naka 3 yata kaming Crosswind, walang umabot ng 140km/h. Lahat kasi A/T. Yung M/T kaya daw 150km/h, tapos may video sa YouTube "Isuzu Panther" (Crosswind sa Indonesia yata) takbo 160km/h.

To compare the td27 & 4ja1 based on speed, wouldn't be right. these are workhorse diesel engines not racing engines. Also you have to consider transmission gear ratio and final gear ratio. Give them both the same tranny and differential then it may be, but its still no yard stick.

For me reliability & ease of maintenance would be more like it.

Oh, I have hi-lander with a 4ja1 and I raced an bmw x5 back in 2005 at 3am on EDSA from buendia to north ave. we where neck and neck... would that count? hehehe...

I believe the 160 km/h stories are more artefacts of "optimistic" speedometers rather than actual 160 km/h runs... though 150 might be possible with the newer variants with the 4JA1T and the MT.

    ----

So the 4JA1 isn't the cleanest (in terms of particulates) or the most powerful... but it's one of the most economical... and good economy means low CO2 emissions, low fuel bills and loooong stints between fuel ups.

And the design is simple and robust. Which means you can keep them running for an incredibly long time with minimal maintenance.

    ----

Which is more than I can say for the rattly body and ugly interior... and the handling and brakes are absolutely abysmal. But hey... I use mine everyday... (almost 200k kms na!)... and I like it enough to have joined the Isuzu Diesel Mission raffle (prize is a new Crosswind).

At oo mausok talaga yun! Ahahaha! Pero parang hindi bagay i-compare sila interms of speed, these are workhorse engine like what blue gambit said, these engines are not meant for racing, though they can race but i find it boring to watch compared when seeing drag races here at sta rosa laguna. hehe.

Sir niky ako din sumali hehe.

That's 2.5 against 2.7. Matic against A/T. Di talaga makaka diskarte yung A/T driver.

I hit around nearly 180kph on my Frontier before (TD27, m/t) with the Nissan mechanic onboard.... but this was on that downhill grade on STAR Toll going back to Sto. Tomas with a lot of leeway. On flat roads, 145 to 150kph is barely doable.

Funny coz i was just jockeying a Crosswind A/T a while ago in the office lot (to get to a Tucson parked behind) and it wouldn't jerk forward even if i half throttled it from standstill. When i got into the Hyundai Tucson, i didn't even go half throttle and it just jumped forward.

Talo talaga yung 4JA1 na A/T.

Paakyat kami sa Tagaytay from Talisay on board a TD27 Urvan with 10 people on board and we chanced upon this gold XUVi na patay na aircon and was crawling uphill at maybe 5-10km/h?

I never got to check kung anong letter nag start yung plate niya coz of all the black smoke engulfing him.

Medyo OA naman yung driver na yun. Slotted down into 2nd or D (OD Off), we can maintain about 40-60 km/h going uphill. On the steeper roads, 20-30, puwede pa.

The only time you'll have it crawling at 10 km/h is if it's a really steep grade.

Mahina lang driver nun, eh palace in the sky naka aircon at 10 kami lahat no sweat sa hi-lander ko 2.5 m/t. Sus 5-10km/h? Anu yun naka idle? kahit nga naka hand brake uusod parin 4ja1 eh...

Oa na to. Malamang my problem na yung makina.

I once had a black 3.2 a/t 4x4 Frontier pleasure series. Got it brand new. It was a disaster for me kasi my monthly payment plus FC of 6 km/l paktay. Had to sell it to a friend with assume balance. Pero it still is for me, until now, the most handsome pick-up ever.

confirmed ba that the Urvan had the orig spec TD27 engine?baka naman pinalitan na ng 3.2 nga makina.. or maybe turbo nga TD27. kasi from my experience ang bagal talaga ng urvan.. lalo na pag mai sakay.. na try ko narin ang crosswind AT turbo.. and i terms of arangkada.. parehas lang para saken..

drving on SLEX naman 120kmph on the AT crosswind was ok din naman.. hindi hirap ang makina.. where as when you compare to Urvan.. ang ugong na ng makina..

the urvan is the ordinary shuttle service yung bang garage to terminal.. mas mahaba at flat nose pa yung urvan with N/A engine compared sa xwind turbo A/T eh nahirapan pa din yung 4ja1. maybe because of xwinds xtra large tires for its engine..

yesterday nasa car wash ako nakaupo and in front of me is a xwind xuv.. paalis na yung owner.. he started the engine.. natawa lang ako kasi yung buong front fascia nung vehicle eh nanginginig..

di ba meron eco diesel something program ang isuzu?? may ads pa sila na how long isuzu can go.. pero sana improve din nila yung engines nila na sikat like 4ja1 and make a crdi version like mitsu 4d56 na may crdi version na.. yung 4jx1 kasi kabaligtaran ng 4ja1.. isuzu should make some progress lalo na sa diesel.. diesel king pa naman sila eh napag iwanan na ata

we also had an auv with isuzu engine C-190.. grabe tibay nyan.. mahal pa kahit surplus.. pero maingay, mayanig.. pero nung nagpalit kami ng ibang vehicle with a different diesel engine na mas tahimik, mas malakas at hindi mayanig.. ayoko na ulet ng isuzu.. sakit kaya sa katawan yung traffic na mayanig na maingay pa..
