1st of all, you cannot compare japanese cars and korean cars... korean cars are cheaper but.... how long can you see them on the road running (Philippine Condition). 5 years? 3 years?...

Until now, Japanese cars are still more reliable than Korean cars and this is proven already....

    for me I prefer SWIFT....

tell that to the zillions of starex vans out there, many of them already 10 years old.

hyundai isn't topping JD Power customer surveys in the US for nothing..

I drive a 10 year old Ssangyong as much as I do my equally aged Pajero. Not much difference, both are still fresh.

Let's see... add to OTEP's Ssangyong and the millions of happy Starex owners the zillions of Kia Prides still plying the Metro. The bodies may be falling apart from rust (unavoidable on old cars) but the engines and mechanicals are still good.

I met a taxi owner who traded in a Corolla for three Prides. He says he gets more money (of course, 3 vs 1?) and he doesn't spend so much in maintenance, as Pride parts and maintenance are very cheap, and, as taxis, the reliability of all cars are similar... oh, and it helps that they use less gas than the 1.3 carburated car he sold to buy them.

Oldest Prides still on the road are now 15 years old or so.

Not all Japanese cars are ultra-reliable, and not all Korean cars are crap... and just because I'm half-Japanese, it doesn't mean I have magic ninja powers.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Kia Prides are reliable if not so durable rides. parts are cheap. you'll find even more Prides plying the road than a Japanese say, B12 Sentra.

heck! technically, its even older than a Lancer boxtype of the 80s coz its really based on a 1970s Mazda!

    5th: Aveo: just too old.
4th: Picanto: Was really considering this, but the Getz is looking better and better

3rd: Swift: Really nice, impressed at auto-show display... but interior is really tiny for a car this big... I'd buy it if I were rich and looking for a toy, but I'm not.

1st (tie): Getz: Decent driving dynamics, DIESEL, good power and great economy, a class win over the Jazz in Australia... lower price tag PLUS the bonus of resale value afforded by the diesel engine (AFAIK, Hyundai's new diesels are probably the best cheap diesels around)... what's not to like?... except the plastic interior... which isn't much worse than the Jazz's cheap interior.

1st (tie): Jazz: It's expensive, so what? Resale value wins you back that money... IF you ever decide to sell. It's frighteningly fast at the track and a hoot to drive. Electric steering kind of so-so, but small size still equals fun. Genuinely huge interior, if a bit too narrow for three people in the back seat.
