If i were to go fanatic on a car(from Japan that is)... I would choose the Skyline R34 GT-R. That car is a masterpiece of divine proportions. Atleast, that one is comparable to a Lancer Evo.
How does the R34 compare to an Evo? If I'm not mistaken, it's heavier and the tires wear out faster. I think the Skyline is a bit too big to be a proper GT. If it had the proportions of, say, a Porsche 911, it just might be a different story.
Back to topic, the SiR and Evo are not rivals, period. But in fairness, it wasn't stupid for a newbie to come compare these two.
at the time of the r34 and evo7, best motoring did mention in the JDM vs euro trackbattle that these two belonged to the top JDMs...
Though it's not in the same category, EVO---->>>Keep asking those questions newies, and if you find some questions stupid, don't answer it! Peace!
 OT na yung buong topic:
As for R34 vs. Evo, the R34 was the faster car at the time, hands down, more sophisticated all-wheel-drive, better turn-in, more powerful engine (around 330-350 "true" hp vs. the Evo's 276-285 "true" hp, even though both were rated at 276 only) and more grip.
But the R34 is notorious for using up brakes and tires, and in a multi-lap race, the Evo had a good chance of showing up the big GT.
As for the 4G63T Lancer vs. SiR, I once saw a drag race between a modified SiR and a 4G63T-swapped Lancer. Whether by driver error, or because of too much power, the Lancer had a lot of trouble getting off the line.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
Given that the R34 is a great performer, why was it discontinued?
Back to SiR, I pretty much believe it's the easier car to drive compared to an Evo. It only has an NA engine with FWD as opposed to turbo with 4WD. It takes some time to master the launch of the Evo. I think it has something to do with clutch burning, so proper and timely release is required. In the Honda, practically anyone can launch it respectably. Light clutch, slick shifter, and an engine that only needs revs - you're up and running.
common characteristics talaga ng isang sports car ang mahirap i-drive. like in sports, you gotta have the skills. as in the case of Evo, ok lang yun. for the SiR, well it is practically an everyday car that could go fast but that is all.Originally Posted by squala

The R34 was discontinued because of the 350Z, and it left a good track record by winning its last JGTCC season. The Skyline will make a comeback in 2006? with the R35.
4G63T on a FF lancer? Di kaya torque steer ang inabot nun? Meron bang 5500rpm rev limiter yung B16 ng SiR? I think launching beyond that RPM only means unnecessary stress to your drivetrain.
5500 rpm?! ay naku sobra naman... a good launch should be at 3000 rpm and without wheelspin if you can manage... sayang kasi ang time kung sa wheelspin lang mauubos.
the r34 was also discontinued with the fact that the trusty RB26 wasn't gonna pass the upcoming emissions standard na rin. forgot the exact details about all the reasons why the r34 went away, pero the rb26 emissions was one of the major ones.
pero the r34 went with a bang naman with the Z-Tune, so that still makes things okay.
and i forgot where i read, dito rin ata, the fastest lap times ng stock r34 GT-R would be from the initial laps.
pero this is weird...sa best motoring factory fighters featuring the evo8 MR, on a gymkhana, the r34 GT-R did a quicker time around the course, next was the evo8 MR, and last was an impreza WRX STi V-Limited.

Best Motoring always harps on the fact that an R34's best lap is its first. And yes, it would be faster through a gymkhana than an EVO, due to the Mitsubishi's understeer. The Mitsubishi is more of a point and squirt weapon, while the GTR can be muscled around sideways.
Part of the problem with the R34 was emissions, but the whole model line was getting old anyway, and it wasn't making money, since they weren't selling any of the Skyline models outside of Japan. The new "Skyline", which shares architecture with the 350Z, is a much more commercially viable car, and the next GTR will be better marketed than the old one.
Launching an Evo is a no-brainer. Even a poorly launched Evo can cream a well-driven SiR in the 1/4 mile. You dial in launch revs, let go of the clutch, and there's a minimum of wheelspin before the tires grip and you're off. Of course, do a dozen launches like this and you'll destroy the clutch, but that's a given with any powerful AWD (manual Lamborghini's will only take three or four full-power launches before destroying the clutch). I think it was Jay Leno who said that owning a Lamborghini sucks, because anyone in an econobox can beat you at the stoplight. You're too worried about your clutch to actually race anyone from a standing start. (clutch replacement on a Lambo is around 17,000 dollars, I think).
With the SiR, it's also tough to judge the launch right. I've seen a lot of wannabe dragsters burn up their tires and/or clutch on the dragstrip on the way to a pathetic time. It's tough to judge because the launch rpm window is so high up compared to other 1.6 and 2.0 engines (where you just dial in 3-4k and go). If you launch an SiR at 3k, it'll bog like anything, and if you don't slip the clutch right on a high-rpm launch, you'll just be spinning tires.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
tricky lang naman in traffic... stop... LURCH... stop.... LURCH...... same with many sports cars.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
worse... stall an Evo when the stoplight turns from red to green :-D
Does the gymkhana result imply that the R34 is more nimble and agile in the corners than an Evo? If yes, how is this made possible considering the Skyline is a bigger, heavier car?
And oh, a modded AE86 can beat the Nissan in a downhill mountain battle.
niky: ahhh ayun. hehehehee.
squala: siguro just to prove how their high-tech doodads compensate for things :D especially the attesa system.
mejo ot:
evo kasi is a 4wd car, civic sir is a front-wheeler kaya mejo hindi sila ganun ka same sa category and performance.
katapat kasi ng evo afaik is subaru impreza and nissan skyline (all 4-wheel drives). specialty ng cars na ito ay rally opinion ko.
civic sir on the otherhand katapat nya is yung other "ff - front engine front wheel drive" rides like lynx rs, corollas, etc.
bmw, euros (like benz, volvos, except the exotic cars) and some american muscles (vipers, mustangs, corvettes) belong naman sa "fr - front engine rear wheel drive" kaya nga iba ang feeling pag euro or muscle car ang drive mo!
exotics(porsches, ferraris, lambos), and f1s belong naman sa either "rr - rear engine rear wheel drive" or "mr - mid engine rear wheel drive" eto ang pinaka-mahirap gamitin pero sila din ang mga pinakamabibilis sa lahat, for "race car or very pro" drivers nga ito ika nga!!![]()
