    Hi Guys,

Just want to ask your opinion on what is recommended for 4x4 family use ride. I'm not into the new models but rather the old ones due to its reviews.

I'm considering the hilux surf vs. pajero fieldmaster

    any difference between the ff:
    - fuel consumption
    (surf M vs. fieldmaster M)
    (surf AT vs. fieldmaster AT)
    - suspension
    - ride experience
    - cost of maintenance
    - availability of parts
    - can be use for offroad beginner

    Thanks

FM nalang at least hindi converted unlike the Hilux Surf.

Pwede rin Nissan Patrol Safari or LC70/LC80

Btw, TOYCAR mo ba, mas maganda siguro kung iba ang kotse mo pang offroad at pang pamilya.. Siyempre iba ang ride nun, ...

FM Pajero na. Being officially available locally is a boon. It looks a lot more timeless than the aged looks of the Hilux Surf. And then again, if the Surf uses the 2L-T engine, it is known for overheating issues. Better get the M/T variant for better gas mileage and more simple and low cost maintenance in the long run.

    Pajero Fieldmaster, nuff said ;)

You get comfortability. You can seat up to 10 persons, while the Surf can only seat 5 persons. Actually, there is a local Hilux Surf, in the name of 4Runner. Pero rare ito. Tsaka nasabi na ni GTi, 2L-T engine which is common sa Surf are known to have overheating issues due to cracking of cylinder head. As for the 4M40 (engine of FM), well, wala akong masabi. Tried and tested na ito.

BTW, only 97-99 models of Pajero FM are of 4x4 variants. 00 model and up are only 4x2.

Id go with the FM. The 4runner/hi lux surf is too bumpy on the road. It might be capable off road but i would not suggest it for family use. The FM, on the other hand, is very capable offroad as well as comfortable for family use.

As to the engine, 4m40 is a tough engine.

Yup, just like the 3.2 4M41, the 4M40 runs in timing chain as well.

The boxy good looking Fieldmaster is the BEST-LOOKING Pajero variant (referred to as Montero in Europe - pajero in Spanish or Latin European means wanker, thus the name change for the European market)

In Subic, the older Fieldmaster is priced almost the same as the relatively newer-style Japanese Shogun sold as used thereat.

Pajero definitely. One of the most timeless SUVs ever to grace our shores. Lethargic engine aside, I'd even consider it over a Fortuner.

Out-of-Topic (Kindly excuse me gents, sorry for this):

Hi sir, saw that advert already last night as from time-to-time i'm also checking the Suzie thread - that Samurai is definitely armed-to-the-teeth to tackle the rough stuff

i'm completely satisfied, however, with this boxy-style Wake up little Suzy V6 4x4 manual-tranny that i got 2nd-hand - runs also in timing gear-and-chain

If ever i will get another vehicle, it should be also a classic boxy SUV, a Japanese/or Dubai-version Landcruiser 70 Series, and this will be for the long-haul.... But this is just a dream at the moment haha

    Cheers!

Oo chief, pang-kaliwete ang kambiada! Ang pangit tignan sa totoo lang! Haha!

Malakas siguro sa gas ito kung diyan sa trapik natin sa Pinas, lalo na yung auto-tranny version nito.

Maluluwang naman dito at laging relatively long-drive out-of-city assignments ko chief sa Oz outback. City driving ko is around 8.0 to 8.5 km per litre at long drives around 11.2 km per litre.

    Cheers!
