Hi everyone, would like to ask your opinion when comparing these two cars. I will be in the market very soon for a 4x4 vehicle that can used on a daily basis and also on long provincial trips. My main consideration is a vehicle that is dependable and can be used on not-so-friendly terrain for business use, and something with ample power. Fuel consumption not much of a factor (which is why i'm considering an FJ) but could be a bonus (same thing for the BK). I'm also used to driving big vehicles so not really considering a CUV. Basically i'm comparing these two because i like the retro looks and i would like something "classic" hahaha. Any inputs would be much appreciated

PS. If BK i will be getting it brand new, but for the FJ i'm also considering going secondhand

BK since it's the last of its kind. FJ.. pwede pang mabili in the future especially that you'll purchase the BK brand new.

Are you considering the BK gas or diesel? If the diesel, I'd get the BK as it's more practical as a daily driver versus the FJ, especially if people will be riding the rear often enough.

If you're considering gas variants of both, I'd get the FJ.

parang talong-talo ka na dyan sa FJ, tataas ang srp excise tax, tataas ang gasoline tax tapos kelangan pa dyan premium octane. tapos ni hindi man lang leather seats, tapos bibile ka pa ng stepboard saka roofrail, tapos walang backup camera. after excise tax, how much is that 2M? spending 2M next year for a car tech circa 2004 is eccentricity

well, to each his own.. you really have to understand the shortcomings of the FJC to own one. I own one...

    Hands down BK!

Our CK pajero for over 12 years had it's tie-rod and bushing set changed after 200,000km.

Rough road, highway, hills, and city use.

    Tough AF

Parang wala pang nilalabas si Mitsubishi, pero based on the price increase posted by Honda and Toyota on there cars priced near the BK, increase could be relatively small. Case point : Hiace LXV priced at 2.593M increase by just 26K.

no brainer na to. with the excise tax on gasoline, and gasoline being a gas guzzler, and those at the price range of 1.5 to 1.8M getting the largest increase in SRP, wala na kwenta pa bilhin ang FJ if compared to pajero. with Pajero being at the 2.7M range na bababa pa ang tax, and a bullet- broof diesel.

Yup, best bet mo to get one is sa provincial dealerships. Up to now, wala pa rin stock dealers sa Metro Manila. Plus, dealers are now prioritizing in-house financing rather than cash or bank PO

They are two very different vehicles. We have both so I can make a comparison. Our BK has the petrol engine.

Power - they are similar though the FJ is faster.

Handling on-road - they both handle like a boat.

Handling off-road - the FJ is more capable though the Pajero is no slouch.

Fuel consumption - FJ with 4.0 V6 is 5.5km/l city driving. Pajero with its 3.8 V6 is 4km/l. For the diesel version, it gets 6-7km/l according to a couple of friends who own the BK hasdiesel version.

Seats - they both have good front seats but the Pajero has an uncomfortable second row due to the center armrest. The middle passenger will have a sore back on long trips. FJ has no third row while the Pajero's third row folds into the bed. It is difficult to get into the FJ's second row due to the suicide doors but once inside, it's quite comfortable.

Cargo space - FJ has more but the Pajero already has a lot since all the seats fold down and the third row folds into the bed. When the third row is raised, you can use the compartment for it as extra storage though it gets warm in it.

Comfort - FJ is more spongy. The BK feels more planted and firmer.

They are very different vehicles with both of them the last of their line. Collectible? Well, you can only justify this if this car will be a garage queen. For a daily driver, they're both OK. The Pajero is a little easier to park but not by much.

Other comparisons - The BK's mirrors can fold in, the FJ can't. BK has leather seats, FJ has fabric. BK has the better sound system though the FJ's head unit looks better. BK has climate control and rear AC vents, FJ has manual AC and no rear vents. BK has better rear visibility. The BK comes with a stepbaord, the FJ doesn't. BK comes with foglights, the FJ doesn't.

All in all, the FJ is a basic rig built for fun at the trails. The BK has a lot more luxury appointments and competes more with a Prado but at a cheaper price. You can't really do a good comparison for both as they were both designed for different segments. If you have a family and you intend to use this to bring them around, the BK will be a much better vehicle.
