Both cars are reliable and fuel efficient, but here are some differences you might want to consider:

CoRolla XE = 1.3 carburated engine (pls correct me if im wrong. not sure about the 98 model)
    Civic LXI = 1.5 fuel-injected engine

The Civic should be more fuel-efficient in both highway/city drivings.

    Corolla XE hands down.

Low cost and availability of parts? check. Thanks to the buying power of thousands of taxis, you can get cheap parts almost anywhere.

Fuel Efficiency? check. A good spraydown of carb cleaner down the throat once in a while is all you need to do. If my mom can clean carbs, so can you.

Reliability? Look at those taxis... literally held together by wire and duct tape... driven almost a hundred thousand kilometers in a month... yet still running. I've yet to see that level of durability in a Honda, because they're so babied and pampered. And when they break due to some engine code thingamajig, you have to bring them to the CASA, where you are at the mercy of the snooty-toot Service Advisor. With a Corolla XE you simply call your corner mechanic and buy parts at the corner auto supply store. And with the simplicity of its 2E engine, reliability is never an issue.

    Accessories? Pareho madami sa Banawe.

ingat nalang sir kung hindi EFI yung engine ng kotse na kukunin nyo. There are some potential problems with carbureted motors and E10

E10 ba kamo? Palitan ang makina! Dami pampalit sa bigbody... you can put the 4A-GE of Initial D fame, 4E-FTE for some turbo fun, 4A-GZE for some SUPERCHARGED fun, and basically any Toyota engine of that era you can shoehorn in. Gusto mo ng DIESEL na corolla? hanap ka 2C na makina. If you trade in the 2E make sure you get a good price kasi daming taxi fleet naghahanap ng piyesa niyan.

It's their flexibility and ease of maintenance that helps maintain the XE's value. If you look at the car ads they almost match the value of a same-year GLi, Honda Accord or a 7G Galant more or less a couple thousand pesos simply because if you buy one, kahit na may sira yan madali lang ayusin sa (relatively) murang halaga.

Hmmm. Medyo mabutingting lang yung A-series. We have a widebody with a silvertop, yes, superfun talaga yung makina ratratin, pero there are small quirks.

1)hirap humanap ng unit na ayos ang compressor
2)to get the best out of it, V-Power or Blaze. ramdam ang diperensya pag regular unleaded lang
3)in addition to #2, synthetic oils pa
4)you need to get better brakes. at the moment disks all around na yung corolla
5)from a 1.3 to a CAST IRON 1.6? hehe. magiging "lowered" ang auto mo ng di sinasadya, so you need to get stiffer shocks for it
6)basta. maarte talaga yung makina. it's best described that way. and I'm not doubting the installation worksmanship and the integrity of the engine block since si Atong yung nag-asikaso nung corolla

if the TS wants a hassle-free driving experience, he's better off with a car that's with a stock EFI motor.

    just my opinion
