a friend is offering her 2001 Echo A/T for P250K.
is this a good buy for a 1st year college student or are there other cars to look at? if so, which ones at this budget?
thanks!

hi. you might want to consider a toyota corolla 1.6GLi ( Love-Life ) or Honda City 2001 or Ford Lynx Ghia or nissan sentra
Both cars are at the price range of 250-300k......or maybe lower.
I did a little research and here are the links:

The Toyota Echo is a nice car but given it's a 2001 model, it might be at the age that major (expensive) components are starting to fail, especially if the unit has high mileage on its odometer. These parts would include the alternator, a/c compressor and even the a/t tranny itself.
Depends on the odometer numbers. Even if the owner has two cars, you can't say that the owner just drivers around the block or drives back and forth to Tarlac every other day. Best to check before anything else.
If it's a low mileage car, you might be looking at a good buy.

go for that!!! i have a friend that owns an echo (replaced by jazz recently) and had 100k + km on it and no engine prob. and i saw how he abuse it everyday.
tibay ng engine.
Hi staind.....
Just a few guidelines when you're checking the car.
1. Look at the mileage. Is it too high for it's year model?
2. Bring a mechanic for him to check if there are problems w/ the car
3. Check the body, does it have scratches, dents etc.
4. Check the interior, does it have any broken parts etc etc.
5. Have you test driven it? If not, maybe you could do some testdriving for you to feel the power of the car.
Well, buying a 2nd hand car is just simply similar in buying a brand new one....you check before you pay.......
CHECKPAY...wtf
Anyways....goodluck
Cheers ;)
*s_quilicot,
don't know the plate# e. what's the first name of the owner of the gold echo that's for sale?
*renzo_d10,
yep, will surely test drive it and have it checked.
am pretty sure echoes don't have 'power' being a small displacement car. it'll be zippy but that's about it.
it's the FC and cutesy looks that make it appealing to students. besides pang-city lang naman yung car e, not for out of town trips.
as already suggested, just allocate money for repairs. one thing good going for the echo is that afaik it is fuel efficient. and i think you don't need all the space of a sedan yet![]()
I was going to suggest to get the 2003 Vios instead but I checked the prices and its at least 350k.![]()
