My 20 year old niece who's still in college recently went to me
for advice regarding a car she plans to buy. Its a 98 VW Polo
Sport Classic. Her budget kasi is only P100 thou (money she saved
from her allowance plus dagdagan daw ng papa niya, hehehe.)

I dont know much about this car so wala ako nasabi.Nakakita na
ako nito before and I remember na OK naman porma niya.

She doesn't like KIA Pride and the Nissan LECs kasi baka ex-taxi
    daw mabili niya.

Would appreciate any feedback on the Polo Classic. Also, what other
cars can you recommend for 100 thou? Thanks much!

magada ang polo, pero patay ka sa piyesa nito (nadidinig ko na mahirap piysa nito)

exterior wise, mukhang mid-size kia-pride sedan!

sulit kung makakakuha siya ng KIA pride GTX (1.3L manual, iwas sa matic--takaw sa gas ng matic)

makikita mo naman kung taxi pag ex-taxi private plate may naka stamp na H sa plaka...

i would recommend 1989-92 corolla dami parts, dami din makakagawa.. dali pang matutunan.. dali din set-up-an!

Thanks Sir A_Y for the info! I'll call my niece and read to her your
    answer.

Love niya kasi talaga yung porma ng Polo, but she should be
told about the pros and cons. Hope she'll consider also the
other car models that you mentioned.

I almost got one 5 years ago. Then I realized how I hardly fit on the driver's seat. It's not exactly ergonomically friendly for the larger folk. Otherwise, I think it's one fine vehicle. I have no idea about the availability of parts, though.

I'm sure personal preference regarding aesthetics is playing a huge part here, so I'm having a hard time joining in the recommending of the small body Corolla.

    re: Mazda Familia

I own one (GLX manual) and am currently hitting around 9-10km/L on the average. And I have a bit of an idling problem, as well as a small hole or two on my exhaust sa lagay na yan. I think the problem is inherent to the individual cars as opposed to the model itself. I've seen and driven gas guzzling Corollas, too.

With that said, it's going to be tough to get a really good car for 100k. Especially since the Kia Pride is not an option.

I agree with you sir that its really hard to get a good car for 100K,
but since my niece is still a student and this is going to be her first
car, a "low-end" type would be just right for now, otherwise she might be "spoiled rotten" if she gets an expensive car kaagad - at least thats what
her Dad said, hehehe (umiiwas sa gastos!)

I guess a young woman would fit nicely in the Polo's "small" seat.

I guess at her age, her basis for getting a car is the "porma" factor.
As long as the Polo has no "specific" defects, then pwede na siguro
as long as she's happy with it.

Nah. Parts are hard to find and expensive. My aunt used to own one and found it so hard to sell as nobody wants to buy it, plus she finds it too expensive to maintain.

I suggest for the same amount of cash:
    1997-98 Mazda 323
    1989-95 Toyota Corolla

OK ba ang VW Polo Classic?
