    Hi,

I would like to seek an advise on which is better to buy nowadays. Is it a brand new car or a 2nd-hand?

    Thanks in advance

what's important to you in terms of buying factors?

with a used car, you basically are giving up some peace of mind for the privilege of buying the car at a significant discount.

Really depends, if money isn’t a factor no question brand new na. have to be so patient if you’re going for pre owned. to have a peace of mind you need to thoroughly check and inspect it in and out paatras – more than a reg PMS to re claim it’s roadworthiness.

depende sa cash at hand or capacity to pay.

pero alam mo ba, ther are those rich kids/people na 1 month lang kotse nilang brand-new binebenta agad(for them yun kotse ay parang damit lang) yun pinaka best na maukuha mo, usually, under 10,000 or even 5,000kms..and some have less than 2,000 kms!

pero downside parin talaga ng sasakyang used, is yung di ikaw nag break-in, e yan ang pinaka importante sa sasakyan, 1st 1 thou kms.

meron din yung brand-new, outgoing model--last of the models, un din sulit bilhin kasi sa freebies and discount. downside lang, pagka-labas ng next model, luma agad sa yo, well at least you made a good bargain.

meron din b-new car na ginamit lang sa fasion show, motorcade, etc and sold as used.. eto sulit na sulit kasi di to gas gas at minsan pa nga may under 500kms lang! pero usually top model to and some seller pass it as "b-new"

demo units... aba kahit alam mo demo unit yun sasakyan ng cardealer, doesent mean na di yan top condition during its use-- eto ang hinaharap sa potential customers, kaya dapat di magloloko yan on the go, lalo na sa media launch. eto mas mura, but kms readings geta as high as a 1.5years in a averagely used car(10-15 thou km) minimum or more..pero big savings ka din dito.

meron din scrupulous seller selling their cars cheap, rush---kasi may hiden sira pala na di nila maayos, only masking the problem.

pero meron seller na willing ibenta well loved na sasakyan nya kasi di nya ito madadala sa abroad, or kulang pambayad sa ospital, etc. eto sulit din to, pero sana wag mo na tawaran pa...

eto matitipi ko.. and buy alwayz sa direct seller to have the cheapest cost, pag sa dealer, may patong na yan...pero usually, nililinis naman muna ng dealer ang sasakyan prior reselling.

currently it's a buyer's market when it comes to 2nd hand cars. and as others have said, kung constrained ka by budget but not by patience and perseverance, then 2nd hand is the way to go.

but when you think of the exhorbitant gas prices, most likely you'd be looking for the thriftiest model which is usually the latest. and of course, you'd most likely wouldn't want to worry about anything more. so brand new would it is for peace of mind. so if i had the cash, definitely brand new.

imho. it would depend on your budget.
    a) if you are welling to shell out around 20% DP and around 14k/month + chattel+ insurance costs for a brand new sedan for around 5 years, then go for brand new. the downside? mabilis ang depreciation wherein the first few years, you are paying more for something of less value and mahal ang maintenance sa casa (during the warranty period). upside. wala kang iintindihin sa maintenance.

    b) or if you have around 200-300k that you intend to pay as DP for a brand new car, it can buy a second hand car. paayos mo na lang yung mga dapat ipaayos so technically, you will not be spending 100k more on top of the total acquisition cost. downside, baka may problema na yung oto and pasakitin lang ang ulo mo. upside: cheaper maintenance costs, wala kang utang and you have the option to have it insured comprehensively or not.

i had the same dilemna too the past few months, and i've decided to keep my car which is somewhat similar to item b.

There is one major advantage of buying a second hand vehicle. If you are buying a one or two year old car, you aren't hit by the initial depreciation of a brand new car. And you have a car that is still as dependable as the brand new car. Its also possible to have another year or so of the original warranty left.

Even if the factory warranty has already expired, you can have options done to a 2nd hand car which you might have problems with a brand new car like auto-lpg conversion to help you save on the cost of fuel (currently P62/L petrol vs P31/L LPG).

The only major problem with buying 2nd hand is the condition of the car is highly dependent on the previous owner's ability to give proper care and maintenance to the vehicle. So if the previous owner didn't do the proper care, you might be paying it later when the car starts to break down often.
