Mga sir, I'm planning to buy a car. But I'm not rich. My budget is only around 110k. Wala kasi akong kaalam-alam sa cars. This is going to be my first car (if ever).

Kaya ko lang naisip na bumili, kasi hassle pag pumapasok/lumuluwas. Hirap sumakay ng shuttle, jeep or bus(lalo na pag gabi). So naisip ko buy na lang ng ride. So when I browse the net, I saw Lancer GLX(or something like that), Honda civic ES?, Mazda Familia, etc. na pasok sa budget ko. Pwede na ba yun mga sir, para sa everyday drive (practically speaking)? By the way I live in Bulacan, and I go to work at Makati. So mejo malayo na rin.

    I would suggest a 88 to 91 Corolla.

Why? Can you give me some pros and cons regarding the 88-91 corolla?

Yun 110 mo sagad na ba yan? You should allocate at least 20k beside. Sa secondhand, hindi mo sure kung anong pwedeng bumigay dyan. So give a few allowance for repairs.

Na consider mo na budget mo sa gas and toll (pambuwaya pa incase haha) ? Do you have the means to maintain it road worthy?

    - Easy to run
    - Matibay
    - Maraming spare parts available
    - Fast enough
    - Maganda tingnan (for me at least)

For cars that are over 20 years old, reliability and ease of maintenance na talaga dapat tintitingnan mo, kasi hindi mo naman maiiwasan na magkasira-sira mga parts niyan.

Another suggestion, the B13 Sentra ECCS:

You can get one for less than 100k, tapos yung tira ipangrepair mo ng sira ng car kung meron (sure naman na meron, it's 20 years old).

I prefer the B13 Sentra over the AE92 Corolla because:

    - it's faster (GA16DE engine is stellar, while the 4AF in the Corolla doesn't have EFI yet)
    - looks much better, timeless even
    - power features (door locks, windows, mirrors) - this could be bad though since over time nasisira din 'to so papaayos mo pa
    - more space (ang sikip ng AE92 for today's standards)
    - it's newer
    - parts are just as common

    Pros:
    - many are still available in relatively good enough condition. Many enthusiast or car club members still drive them who might be selling them for reasons of family or money or immigration, etc. This means one owner since new and the car would have been kept in good running order, minimal or no rust on the body and mechanicals in good maintenance.
    - parts for this car is still common enough at surplus shops.
    - minimal high tech in this car meaning your neighborhood talyer can do nearly all the maintenance and repair on this car.
    - lightweight car with "average" fuel economy (for it's time).

    Cons:
    - no power steering (although it can be retro-fitted)
    - no anti lock brakes
    - relatively weak aircon (as compared current new cars)
    - 20 year old car. Even with proper care certain stuff do age and fail, like electronics, electrical connections, rubber parts.
    - certain replacement/surplus parts might be harder to find
    - engine is not the most efficient, given it is 20 years old and using 20 year old technology.

Di po sagad yung 110, I'm reserving at least 20-25k for repairs, changes, maintenance etc.. etc.. and in terms of gas and toll fees pasok naman sa monthly budget.. kaya ok naman sir sa tingin ko..

Wag mo na ipilit yung Honda Civic ESi. It's a good car, but it's past your 110k budget. Kung may mahahanap kang Civic ESi for 110k, siguradong laspag na yun.

Mazda Familia? This is newer than all your other choices, pero nasa 130k pa average price nito, so at 110k baka laspag din makuha mo. Malakas sa gas though, lalo na yung automatic (BTW don't get an old automatic, regardless of brand) but it's a decent car if you can get one in good condition for 110k. We had one before, nothng spectacular but nothing awful either.

Best bet talaga for me is a '91-'95 Nissan Sentra ECCS Super Saloon.

EDIT: Just checked prices, pati pala yung B14 Sentra Super Saloon ('95-'99) aabot sa 110k, if you get the '95 or '96 models. I still prefer the looks of the B13 though, mas luma nga lang. But at least that car had 4-wheel disc brakes and ABS.
