An officemate had a kia carnival. It was well taken care of. Sadly the fanbelt snapped before its scheduled replacement. Ayos lang sana kaso when the belt snapped, nawalan din sya ng preno. Almost had a very bad accident dahil wala syang preno

my old besta diesel, had a pump to power the brakes. the pump was run by a belt from the crankshaft pulley.
when the engine died, so did the pump. even jumping on the brake pedal had little effect in bringing the van to a stop.

i am not sure with gas-engined cars.
in some (older?) gas engines, the vacuum used to power the brake booster comes from the inherent vacuum from the action of the pistons. i suppose, when the engine dies, the vacuum is considerably lessened, but it is still there, nonetheless.

    2. Value for money - favor features like good ac / ventilation, better quality parts, better interiors, and features and lower maintenance cost over cosmetics.

    3. Maintenance and serviceability - drive and forget, I don't have time to maintain it apart from annual maintenance.

    Thanks in advance.

Had the same problem as you. Got an innova 2 weeks ago. Problem solved.

Dont get rush. It is slow and can get cramped inside. Xpander looks roomy though

If you have more than 5 family members or plan to have more than 5 in the near future the Innova or other PPVs will not be enough as you have to allocate space for luggage.

For bigger families a full size van is the way to go.

Hirap bro. If you have to stay more than 1 night with 6 passengers or go to the airport even if everyone packed light it's just not enough. On a trip to Anvaya with 6 pax my uncle had to have some of the luggage on the passengers laps lol

I agree here. A full size van will make you smile and will keep everybody very comfortable.

Five to six people on captain seats, with enough room for luggage, dog cage and some more.

Get a Nissan NV350, customize your seats to your liking, and you will have everything you need.

Ah captain seats. Nothing beats those for long drives. Speaking of customized NV350, I once played with the idea of getting the cargo model. The extra body length would be great for legroom. With the lower price vs the 15 seater/18 seater/Premium, captain seats all around would've been possible. If only it had AC vents in the back...

Thanks for the reco. I'm on the fence with the Xpander since its relatively new so not much feedback yet. What do you mean the Rush is slow? Are you referring to acceleration?

Yes. Acceleration is slow and engine is small vs. the body hence fuel economy suffers.

I recommend a Toyota Innova or a Mitsubishi Xpander, they offer a lot of space and folding seats.
In terms of reliability and maintenance, Toyota remains a safe bet with controlled costs.
If you want an SUV, the Hyundai Santa Fe or the Honda CR-V hybrid may be interesting.
Also look at consumption if you want to limit spending in the long term.
Do you have a specific budget in mind?

    i wonder,
is there really this thing called SUV?
or is it something concocted by salesfolk, to drum up sales?

in my view, SUV refers to a mode of use and not design... 'most any vehicle can be used for sport as well as for utility.

The term was supposedly coined by Jeep (The History of the Sport Utility Vehicle: Why Is It Called an SUV?) in the 70's and 80's, and have been widely used since to describe any vehicle that is.. (from Merriam-Webster):
...a rugged automotive vehicle similar to a station wagon but built on a light-truck chassis.

If we apply the term retroactively IMO the first SUV would be the Chevrolet Master or Suburban. Started off 1933/35 and it was a station wagon body on a 1/2 ton truck frame.

If we add off-road capability to the requirements, IMO still the Suburban which gained 4x4 in 1955. Next would be the J50 Land Cruiser, first of the "station wagon" line that came out in 1967.

Santa Fe and CRV are CUVs (Cross-over utility vehicles) not SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles).

SUVs use a body on ladder-frame chassis much like trucks, while CUVs use a unibody frame like sedans.
