Hello guys, I'm planning to loan a car this October. I need your opinion regarding these two car that I'm considering. I know that this is a comparison between two different class but they are almost in the same price range (Civic 1.8V A/T PHP898,000 / Jazz 1.5V A/T PHP822,000).

I consider Jazz because of its nice features (paddle shifter, side turn lamp, airbag) but with just a little more money I can get a civic which is a compact car (more power & sturdy body) but with less features.

What do you think guys? Thanks!

I'd go for the Civic, hands down. Bigger car, stronger engine.

I was in the same boat as you justa few months back, choosing between the 1.5V Jazz A/T and 1.8S Civic M/T. I chose the latter. Never regretted my decision.

Feeling ko kasi mabibitin din ako sa 1.5 Jazz (coming from a 2.0 turbocharged car as my previous ride).

Baka gusto nyo 1.8S M/T nalang, add 10k for a grand total of 908k.

You get the foglamps and 2 airbags na rin - or is the automatic a requirement? :/

Civic 1.8V na lang. If ok sayo MT then 1.8S is better add na lang ng konti pero kung 'matic medyo malayo na price ikaw na mag decide if you still have the financial flex.

Forget the airbags because nasa Pilipinas tayo and for me its usefulness here is overrated. And body first before other SRS. Naka Jazz ka nga na may SRS eh mas maganda naman yung structure ng Civic in an accident I would rather be in the Civic since body is the 1st line of defense and of course the seatbelts. To add to the Civic's point the Jazz will have a P10K increase very soon thus making its super overpriced and not worth it at all...

If decisions were based on criteria "metal per peso" alone, Civic is the most logical choice.

    But...

Otherwise picking which one to get would really depend on your needs or usage for the vehicle.

Jazz should be the choice if :

1.) Flexibility. If oversize cargoes (balikbayan box, suitcases for airport, etc...) are an occasional affair. Jazz's flexibility will not leave you hanging. No sweat! Civic's trunk is only good for a single travelling luggage and some hand carrys.

2.) Manueverability. Its small footprint and great frontal view makes it a joy to drive and park in crowded urban/city traffic situations. Parking and manuevering the Civic in tight spaces could be a challenge due to its ultra frontal rake thereby reducing visibility.

3.) Fuel economy: "Drive like a 2.0 but drinks like a 1.5". That's what the marketeers would like you to believe. But to accomplish such is really inhuman. Jazz is still the winner here.

4.) Safety features. The Jazz has dual front airbags as standard. The Civic has nada and its the more expensive of the two.

5.) Cheaper cash outlay. Lets face it, for the normal juan, the price difference Php 72,000.00 bet. the two cars is still a significant amount. In my view, bringing out more cash for a Civic V is more of a downgrade (in utility) than an upgrade as some see it.

    Civic will be the choice:

1.) For a marginal comfort (over the Jazz) for passenger and driver due to the space. The Civic's seating material is hard (bad for the back) and its stiff suspension might make you weary on long trips.

    Conclusion:

It is very obvious that my choice criteria is heavily skewed in favor of the Jazz. But thats for me, bec. utility is far more important than comfort (which the Civic is really short of, anyway). If you really want comfort, go for the Altis 1.6G A/T at Php 869,000 (can be discounted by Php 30,000)

    Agree.

You'll get used to it. No problems parking for me, never dinged my front/rear bumpers trying to park in any tight parking space. No problems really maneuvering with the civic either. The sweeping dash/windshield and no hood visibility may initially be confusing though (this is my mom's complaint with the car).

teamFD members are getting anywhere between 8KM/L (pure city driving) up to 12-14KM/L (highway driving). It's still a 1.8 underneath, but I'D SUPPOSE it has figures comparable to the 10th gen corollas with their heavier bodies and underpowered 1.6L engine. If you're doing lots of highway driving/cruising, then the fuel saving tech will really kick in. The effects of this technology isn't as apparent in city-only driving due to the limited time spent cruising.

Ever seen the camry vs vios crash video? Even the Vios airbags can't save occupants from the power of the impact. It's just too light. I'd really prefer a larger/stronger body + airbags though. (I'm lobbying for the 1.8S here)

Well, it probably would depend on how you see things na. Can't argue with this, except for maybe the last part.

Suspension is quite far from a stiffness that borders being uncomfortable. Agree with the hard seats though - solved by leatherette seat covers worth 3-5k.

If you just need a point A-B car, the Altis (and even the Vios) is a cheaper and undeniably good choice.

Again, not trying to start anything - just balancing things out.

Hope this little discussion would help enlighten the TS more

I actually think the Jazz is the better option, if you're okay with the price (which is quite overpriced for its class IMO). It has enough power for everyday use, while also having more features than the relatively bare 1.8V. Its functionality is also a big plus.

My take on this comparo is that if the Jazz 1.5 A/T suits all your car needs, I'd say go for it.

Sure, you are getting more "metal" with the Civic but you will also be getting the base model which lacks some safety features.

At the end of the day, the 76k you saved can be used elsewhere and you will probably get good resale value with the Jazz anyway.

for me , if for everyday used, jazz na ko, makakatipid pa ako sa panggas, i may use that extra money for additional modifications pa,. imagine the difference ng FC ng 1.8 at 1.5 engines. Jazz for practicality on daily usage.

if any special threatment, civic 1.8 na. di hamak na mas maporma sa Jazz, performance wise and safety incentives are better(mas malake kase). uglier FC than Jazz due to engine size difference. Civic for gwapo

pareho tayo bro, inupuan ko at test drive ko both car, parang dumikit na pwet ko sa upuan at ayaw na maalis nong civic na ang drive ko.

ang ganda pa pormahan at kahit stock lang ay solve na.

kaya sa TS, bro, test drive both car and let your heart dictate you which one will you choose.

If the A/T is not a prerequisite, the Civic 1.8S M/T is the perfect compromise

I guess I'm different... I like the Jazz more. The Civic may have more elbow room, but the GE Jazz is more comfortable (seats are still hard, but not as bad as the Civic... suspension more pliant) and has very good cargo handling.

As long as you don't carry five people often... and even if you carry four everyday... the Jazz is a better car. More practical, more economical... more toys for your money.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

come resale time consider that the jazz currently holds more of it's original value than the civic of the same vintage.

have to check the classifieds though just to be sure.
