    its just like my 320i.

medyo underpowered ang 316i, pero pwede na for many owners. even my 320i is sluggish from standstill.

Madaming units for sale and varying ang presyo. The last unit I looked at was Php 430k for a '95. Super kinis, complete service records, upgraded sound system, alagang-alaga. Owner even invited me over to his house and nakita ko din ang super kinis niyang 5 series. Bibili daw siya ng SUV [Fortuner?]

Dun naman sa Timog may binebenta din. Php 480k. Sobrang laspag, daming gasgas, walang history, walang records, basag pa taillamp, etc. Pati yung nagbebenta walang alam about the car! Halatang shady buy and sell agent. Didn't even bother to test drive.

ang rule of thumb ko pag bibili ng 2nd hand car dapat max na yun 5 years.
that's for jap cars. ewan ko lang sa bmw, kung businessman ka, worth siguro yan 1999 bmw for representation.

Hehehe. You're missing a lot. Daming good finds sa 'old' car market. Lalo na sa Euros. We just got a 60's model, W109 MB. Currently rebuilding it.

well, i do agree that rebuilding an old car is a very fulfilling endeavor. I for one has an 11 year old civic esi seldom-used car in the garage. someday I really plan to make a hobby out of it, but I really can't find the time.

would really love to make this car look like the civics used by Vin Diesel et all in Fast & Furious 1. sa tingin mo magkano kaya magastos ko if ever mag-rebuild ako ng ganun. naisip ko kasi kung aabot din 300k plus sayang investment.

it's all stock, casa-maintained engine until year 9, 2 years na sa servitek, stock rims & tires, shocks need replacement medyo tabinge na nga sya, the aircon compressor needs to be replaced though, old-school headlights, and it's so smelly inside coz my brother smoked on it most of the time

Some old cars don't have to be rebuilt. E.g. the Vitara we got. The price was a steal. The vehicle was mint despite being a '95 model. But that's going OT.

BTTT: Vinj, na-extra pa tayo sa diyaryo. Hehehe.

The 316i can get you to where you're going but don't expect to beat Civics and Corollas on the acceleration dept (kung highway stability pwede pa). If it's a Euro car i'm after and i'm on a relative budget then the 316i is a good choice. I'd still look for a 320i given the chance. Tama si BLuebimmer, it is sluggish from standstill (320i) but once you hit the high rpm... yahooooo.

Reliability is dependent on how the previous owner maintained and used it. We used to have one before (1998 320i). I was searching some months back out of curiosity since the prices are quite attractive (and it's a fun car to throw around in the corners) but most i've seen are not "pasado" in my standards (meaning you'll be spending a tidy sum to get it into fresh and reliable condition).

Had one more than ten years ago, bought it from the family of a popular race car driver turned politician, the unit I got was VERY VERY FRESH! ( it only had 1,200km when I got it, it was 4 years old at that time). The reason why the mileage was that low is because the first owner had more than 20 cars at his disposal. I remember nakalimutan na nga nya yung car na yan till he brought me to his garage and saw it there dun lang nya naalala na may E36 pala sya. Medyo kinulit ko yung owner nyan for a few months before he finally gave in. A lot of people saw hat the 316i was slow, something that I never felt about it at that time. Maybe because I came from slow cars before the 316i (EG hatch 1.2 engine, EK 1.5LXI). i enjoyed the car for 4 years until the ABS light came on and was given a 75k estimate by Autohaus Libis to fix it, I promptly sold it, at that time wala pa masyado gumagawa ng BMW outside of casa. I bought a new CRV after that, but was never happy with so I sold it at a loss after 2 months and 800km, iba kasi talaga feel ng German cars eh. Then bought a 95 Benz C class which I had for 2 years then a succession of Benzes came along.

Now that the prices of an E36 316i has dropped to around 180-300k, parang gusto ko bumili ulit as a toy/project car, ok sana yung 320i pero I don't want matic for such an old car.

The 320i was one of the first 5-speed a/ts i've encountered locally too. Sayang at walang m/t model sold locally. The 316i may not be as fast but the balance and feel are much better than any Jap sedan of it's size.

BMW 316i is for economy and prestige. mas matipid siya compared to the inline 6 engines of BMW plus you get the high class badge. but if you enjoy driving cars with power, bitin yan. get the 320i at least because the sound of the inline6 engines of BMW is sweet. Plus the specs of some 316i is still not on par with those found in the 320i. the 320i already has rear disc brakes (early 316i has drum brakes), climate control, leather seats, etc.
