Toyota Corolla Cross ... because the other 2 are china made ... Toyota is very conservative at how they charge and discharge their hybrid batteries ... they are programmed to maintain battery longevity ... china cars, like most china technology, have little consideration for safety or reliability ... they "cheat" just so they can claim this and that ... their main aim is to outdo western technology so they can brag that china is better ... also a result of developing designs from stolen technology ...
Many people don't buy china branded phones or appliances ... but strangely, they consider china made vehicles ... where more is at stake ...Last edited by Walter; April 18th, 2024 at 07:00 PM.

April 18th, 2024 08:02 PM #4i don't like hybrids so corolla cross is out for me. but i'd consider a non-hybrid corolla cross even if old model. heck i almost pulled the trigger on a 2023 corolla 1.6G last month pero maliit yung discount compared to the City-Hatch so i didn't take it
BYDs have good battery technology, no surprises there coz they're a battery maker first. i already test drove the dolphin. might get a seagull if it gets here. i'm not sure if i wanna spend 1.6m on an atto3. check the insurance costs first i think theyr'e pretty high on EVs. also i'm not sure if it's the right time to buy an EV. sales have dropped worldwide
MG4. no idea about the battery inside this car. who made it, etc

I would go for the Corolla Cross for the main reason I dont want to revolve my life around finding a charger.
Having an electric car means limiting yourself to townhouses or detached houses and avoiding nearly all condos. There will be more charging stations in the future but its a hassle and it comes out more expensive if you dont have your own charger at home
On the assumption that gas is 70 and Shell Recharge Costs P35 per kw
The cost per charge of an Atto 3 is 1,750 with a claimed 410km
It comes out at P4.3 per km
The cost to full tank a Corolla Cross is 3290 which has a range of 987km
It comes out at P3.3 per km
Ive driven a hybrid and its actually quite nice to drive. That one had a lot more power and the power transition was very smooth. It shudders a bit when starting the engine in a standstill but the transition is very smooth while moving.
A 0-100 time of 13 seconds is extremely slow however. Max output is 122 hp so it should be faster than that

My thoughts:
Resale value is really about perception, and right now the perception is that a hybrid's resale value will definitely be much better than an EV. Those not planning to keep the car for a long period are probably better off with a hybrid. And since the hybrid in question is a Corolla, you can bet the resale value will be really really good.
IMO, the Atto 3 seems to be the best deal if you're looking for more luxury and tech (it's the only one among the 3 with a 360 camera, leather seats, and the least amount of hard plastics in the interior). While the consensus is that the MG4 EV is the most pleasurable one to drive among the three (at least that's what all the reviews seem to say). This is probably why the MG4 EV has won car of the year on multiple car publications and sites in the UK. Both cars have a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, btw.
LiFePo batteries last a looooong time (about 2-3 times more charge cycles than a comparable Li-Ion battery) so I am quite confident the Atto and the MG4 EV will last more than 8 years. The instant torque is definitely going to give it a lot more oomph than the pedestrian Corolla. The EV's will also be much cheaper to run provided you have a garage where you can charge. If you have solar at home then it will even be a lot cheaper.
Considering the battery capacity for both EV's, a full charge will definitely last a week in the metro (your batt will also last longer if you don't top it up every day). And this includes waiting for your passengers with the aircon ON while the EV is idling without taxing an engine or polluting the area around you (the feature I like most about an EV).
TCOS should lean towards the EV's but parts availability will be in the Toyota's favor, for sure. Inventory will probably not be as good with the Corolla, especially with the buzz this mid-cycle refresh brought. I am expecting at least a two-month wait to get a Corolla Cross.
Each one, imho, makes for a good choice in the 1.5M price range for a hybrid or EV. I would have wanted the Kicks to be in on the action but not having space for a spare tire is a dealbreaker for me. Hope the all-new 2025 model with e-power is still in the 1.5M range.
Thanks for the correction. The dude at the mall told me it was Li-Ion.Last edited by Verbl Kint; April 19th, 2024 at 11:55 AM.

April 19th, 2024 01:36 PM #8Choosing one would depend on your driving and parking conditions.
Do you have your own garage = +1 EV
If you live in a Condo = +1 Hybrid
If you have solar panels = +1 EV
If you drive mostly highway and long far out of town trips everyweek = +1 Hybrid
If purely city driving = +1 EV
If you have another car thats not an EV = +1 EV , If the other car is already an EV = +1 Hybrid
Resale value. All daily cars depreciate. True thats its perception of buyers and demand and supply which will dictate its resale value but we never know what circumstances might happen in 5-10 years that might affect the resale value of EV. It could be worse, it could be better. Remember that Hybrids also has battery pack that might need replacement thou not as costly as EV batteries.
Of the 2 EV, i would pick the MG4. only because it drives better than the Atto3. smaller, more nimble, almost as quick and i am not a fond of Crossover and SUV.
