can the two even be compared? i think they dont belong to the same class. are they? what would you choose? and why? +/-? thanks for your inputs.

They belong to the same class, considering they're both Japanese compact cars (Lynx = Mazda Protege).
The Lynx is the more exciting one to drive, while the Lancer is a bit more supple.
The Lancer MX version's INVECS automatic is more sophisticated than the Lynx's regular AT.
Both cars are somewhat good value for money secondhand, and it's really up to you which you prefer.
