Guys, please help. I need to decide within this week as the shipments will be coming in 3rd week of June and I need to reserve soon.

2010 Tucson 2.0R GLS CRDi AT Premium

    or

    2010 Isuzu Alterra 4x4 AT 3.0

Both are 4x4 and diesel and they both cost exactly the same, P 1,698,000!

What I value most are (in order)

    Fuel efficiency (40%)
    Durability (low maintenance) (35%)
    Good airconditioning (15%)
    Prestige (10%)

I have excluded looks because I personally prefer Alterra over Tucson in terms of porma.

Also power, speed and safety features are excluded because I really do not need so much power/speed and that I think both Alterra and Tucson both have good safety features (Airbags, ABS, etc).

Actually I am almost decided on getting Alterra (I already got a quotation from ISUZU Pasig) but I am really curious why Tucson is just as expensive considering that it is smaller. There must be a good reason for this

    Thanks.

Get the Hyundai Tucson, the Alterra is an old model already. The Tucson rides better. If you will notice, there are very few Alterras on the streets and a lot of people lining up to buy the Tucson, there must be a good reason why.

    Neither.

Mas ok kung Santa Fe R (facelift, new engine) or Sorento R (completely new everything) ang kunin mo. For the same price, you'll get a whole lot better car.

Personally, I'll take the Sorento. You can also opt for KIA Carnival LWB EX.

Agree with horsepower. Tsaka kung hindi mo lang gagamitin yung features ng Tucson Premium, dont buy it. Simple lang..

    Neither.

The Alterra is old, expensive and dull looking.

The iX is, well yes a premium.

But, like what SG said ...

If you can't enjoy the toys then what is the " premium add-ons " for ?

You're better off with a Nissan Xtrail.

Get the white one, ; or ....

    The Sorento ...

It is a good looking vehicle too, ...

Just don't know if you can wait. ;)

BTW, Consider also the Sta. Fe

    Wow, nobody likes the Alterra!!

I can see that many like the Tucson, which is consistent to my actual observation - the street is swarmed with Tucson.

But I have not heard from you guys why?

Why Tucson? Is if more economical, more durable, etc? Because if people who chose Tucson choose it becauseof e.g. power, speed, looks, etc then that is not congruent to my "values"

Renzo, the X-Trail is gas-engined, right? That itself disqualifies from my options altough I have to say, X-Trail has the best porma out there, together with Ford Escape.

i think it wont be long before Isuzu comes out with an all new Alterra.. but thats in thailand.. i think they are making one that would compete with the fortuner and pajero sport.. so at this time i dont think its a good idea to get a alterra.. and yes its a pretty old model now..

for me i think the sorento is better than the tucson.. just remember that a Kia and Hyundai is the same.. so dont let the brands become a big factor..

If you're getting the Tucson, why the Premium variant? Do you need all of the extra "toys"?

    It's expensive.

If you want reliability, then Alterra it is and it can go off-road better in case you need it. But both are in different category so it's up to you. If you need a 7-seater then get Alterra, if you need comfort, get Tucson. In fairness to Alterra, it rides very well, i think better than Fortuner. Test drive both so you can feel it.

Tucson Premium ako dito... Sorry to the Alterra but why pay 1.7M for a pick-up truck na sinalpakan lang ng bubong. Its a 3rd world vehicle with first world prices, the Tucson is a global model and it has lots of toys like moonroof, start button, etc!

If you really want a ladder on frame vehicle,

you're better off with the 3.2 liter montero, 3.0 liter everest w/ ICE upgrade, or the V variant of the fortuner.

all of them, at 1.7 million, have more powerful engines than the alterra.

    the fort has captain's chairs
the eve has the same entertainment system, and even a GPS, (and a 5 speed auto, and the most powerful engine among them)
the monty has an invecs-II A/T system

thing with the alterra... you're just paying for the entertainment system. same thing they're doing with the sportivo

I think it is just a case of different strokes for different folks. You guys think Alterra is an old model - I assume you are ferring to the looks. But in my opinion, Alterra looks by far better than Tucson. Tucson for me is probably the worst looking of all compact SUV, together with the new CRV. X-trail and Ford Escape are the best looking.

I have not heard anybody saying Tucson is more economical, more durable, etc than Alterra.

That being said, I just paid the reservation fee of P10,000 to Isuzu Pasig so it will be a Sterling Silver Alterra for me soon!

The alterra is a ladder-on-frame SUV. the chassis is definitely going to be more resilient than the tucson.

If the immediate reliability is in question, then alterra is the way to go.

tucson owners are still beginning to find out about their rides' problems

Actually... a ladder frame is good for long term chassis reliability. Long term, in this case, meaning a hundred years or so...

What's questionable is the long-term reliability of the common-rail system, as this has proven to be a bugbear for Isuzu-Denso systems in the past (the infamous 4JX1 problem), whereas the diesel injection systems Hyundai's transverse engines have shown the ability to last between 150-250k kilometers with no major prolbmes.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

The thing with Alterra is that it's equipped with the crappiest fuel injector in the world (denso) next to whatever the chinese uses :bwahaha:

Ford Everest, Sorento and Santa Fe got the best, Bosch. Nissan Pathfinder din comes equipped with Bosch kaso it's not sold here (yet).
