There's no CLEAR WINNER between the two. They are both similar. It'll always boil down to personal preference - whatever suits your needs.

Toyota has just introduced a new D4D engine for the hilux, the 2.5 diesel 2KD VN Turbo with 144 Hp & 343nm * 1,600-2,800rpm..
I expect toyota to have this engine as a replacement to their underpowered 2.5 diesel engines found on the hilux, fortuner, innova & Grandia with just 102 Hp.. The new engine would fairly compete with the 2.5 diesel engines of Ford, Mitsubishi & Nissan..
Toyota 2.5 D4D VN turbo
- 144 Hp * 3,400 rpm
- 343nm * 1,600-2,800 rpm
Mitsubishi 2.5 DI-D
- 136 HP * 3,500 rpm
- 314nm * 2,000 rpm
Ford 2.5 Duratorq
- 143 HP * 3,500 rpm
- 330nm *1,800 rpm
Nissan 2.5 Di (4X2)
- 144 HP * 4,000 rpm
- 356nm * 2,000 rpm

Thubs down sa Alterra, sa looks pa lang ang pangit na hehehe kaso the interior seems to be okay naman. For me, i'll choose the Montero and Fortuner, because i have the two of them, kaso i'd pick the Montero sa ride comfort.
