Hello to all. Now I know that the Grandis is marketed as a luxury MPV and the Innova is an entry-level MPV, but I think the V variant already has a lot of luxury features (ABS, dual airbags, all-leather trim and seats) and at just over 1M, it seems like a heck of a lot of value for money. The Grandis looks good as well but the 1.5M price tag seems a bit much.

So, aside from the obvious price difference, any opinion on why the Grandis might be a better buy than the Innova V (please ignore the lower Innova variants)? I hope you can help coz we're really planning to buy a new car soon.

Important aspects for me: ride, handling, maintenance (incl. availability of parts and price), after-sales service, fuel economy, looks (int/ext).

    Hope you can help!

In terms of value, the Innova is hard to beat, but if you compare the quality of the interior and fit of the Grandis, the Innova comes up short.

I think the Grandis is more car-like-van while the Innova is more of a hybrid van/utility vehicle.

If money isn't an issue, I love how the Grandis looks inside-out. But since if value is concerned, Innova is hard to beat.

    Just out of speculation:

    Ride - Grandis
    Handling - Grandis
Maintenance - Innova - Economies of scale, the more units sold, the more parts available, the lower the parts cost.
    AS- Dealer-dependent, tough call.
Fuel Economy - Assuming the Innova's a gas? No idea, but couldn't be that far off.
Looks - Not even close, Grandis.

For sure you'll be able to resell the Innova faster in the future, though.

Pareho yata silang A/T, at pareho ding mukhang dugong, ehehehehe.

Baka sa ground clearance sila magkatalo. Like, I'd be more likely to dare braving the floods in an Innova than a Grandis, especially if the former's a diesel (problematic nga pala ang D-4D, so...). Unless you live in Tagaytay, where I've seen the most number of road-going Grandis units so far.

Overall value, I'd hand it to the Innova V.

The Innova is more car for the money, but comparing it to the Grandis is like comparing a Kia Picanto to a Honda Jazz. Yes, they'll do about the same thing, but they're not in the same market.

The Grandis definitely has it all over the Innova in terms of ride and handling, but the Innova is much better than the more traditional AUV (the Revo) it replaces. Just as the Picanto is much better than the Pride...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Thanks for the response! I had the same thing in mind, I know talagang di sila magka-class but again, practicality is a heavy factor to consider. It really boils down to: am I willing to pay 500K more for those extra luxuries?

At least there seems to be a consensus that indeed, the Innova V is worth is weight in *pesos*...

Just one last question, sir otep ano po ba yung option for bench seats? Does this come in the V variant?

    Again, thanks!

    + 1 for Grandis.

Aside sa mga lamang niya sa features over Innova, iba ang arrive ng Grandis eh. Palasak na palasak na sa kalsada, whereas Grandis eh may representasyon ka pa. Presyo lang talaga nagkatalo. Everything else, Grandis.

+1 sa grandis. with all the goodies that it has, it's considerable. and the tax bloated the price.

Bench seats po talaga ang standard middle/2nd row seats ng Innova. Except for the top of the line model which gets 2nd row captains chairs. Ito yung may ABS at dual SRS and leather.

Ah, okay I thought there's an option to have the bench seats sa V variant... but the captain seats look cool too.

I know the Innova is everywhere now, that's why we're planning to get the black, higher-end model para medyo maiba ng konti :-)

Bogeyman, I agree to the comment re: ground clearance. We have a steep ramp up to our garage and "sayad" is always a concern...

    mcmc,
I too have been contemplating a van. I have looked at the Fortuner, Innova, Previa, Venture, Starex as well as the Grandis. Am looking at replacing our 5 year old 7-seater 2001 Carnival. Since my wife drives the van most of the time, one consideration I have is comfort and ease in driving. In other words, a mom-friendly vehicle.

The Grandis has car like qualities--easy to drive, lower ground clearance, not as big as the Starex or the Venture therefore easier to park and turn. The interior is far better than the Innova and the seats thicker and more luxurious. Aesthetically it also looks better than the Innova or Starex (a matter of personal taste). The seats of the Grandis can also be re-configured more easily than the Innova and provides more options. Initially, I liked the Fortuner because of its looks, but the hard ride and the single aircon vent at the back meant it wasn't really designed as a people mover. My wife didn't like the Fortuner too because of the height. It would be difficult for ladies to climb up or down the Fortuner, especially in a dress!

The Previa at PHP 2.1M is too expensive for me. I found the the Starex too big and with a rough drive. The Venture had too many horror stories and is considered a maintenance money pit. Spacewise, the Starex and Venture had the most room.

Yes, the Grandis is definitely more expensive than the Innova because there is more comfort and luxury. On the downside, since the Grandis is not a popular car, I believe it will experience faster depreciation. A 2nd hand Grandis may even be priced higher than a brand new Innova.
Because of it's higher sticker price, insurance will be higher as well.

If you want to go from point A to point B, the Innova is a practical choice. It is functional and affordable. If you want more comfort, more refinement, more options, the Grandis is a good choice. In most car reviews I've read, the Grandis gets favorable reviews and is compared to the Odyssey(Asian version). One concern I have with the Grandis is that the spare is a half sized tire and is designed to be used only as a spare. I believe this was done to save boot space.

    I hope this helps.

The temporary spare can be used up to 90kph for 90kms even if the vehicle is fully laden, AFAIK.

Siguro naman may vulcanizing shop na within a 90km drive.

i believe the grandis' stock tires and rims are the same as the stock ng outlander...so if you get a flat, look for any passing outlanders.

and vice-versa. pero given na both are rare cars on the road...

    *Niky; off topic indeed. LOL.

but seriously, for that amount of money, Grandis is NOT a good deal. pound-for-pound, SFe CRDi is better. It runs on cheaper fuel too.

practicality dictates the innova V D4D. but if you can spare some cash, satisfaction will come from the grandis. i haven't ridden in one, but interior amenities of the grandis are great. third row legroom is decent even with the 2nd row pulled back and the 2.4L MIVEC is a real teaser.

but if the santa fe is also in the 1.5M price range and you won't really be needing 7 seats, i'd get that instead.

Innova V vs Grandis
