    Mazda3 paren ako.

the futuristic interior of the Civic is OK, but IMO the 3's traditional dash is styled with a twist, sporty but still functional. the dash of the Civic reminds me of VW Beetle's dash..too far.

i dont like the sloping downward butt too.

the Civic's engine is better though.

i just hope Mazda would bring the 2.0L with VVT (good for 150ps) and 5AT.

i wish the civic here would abandon the stem type side mirror for the one fitted in the Civic coupe.

basti, yan din ang reklamo ng mga 'enthusiast' dito sa US. Saka yung maliit na window right next to it, sana nilagyan na lang ng takip.

    Mazda3 Hatch (17cu/ft) > Mazda3 Sedan (13cu/ft) > Honda Civic sedan (12cu/ft)

I think... basta pag binaba at finold mo pa yung upuan sa Mazda3's dodouble sila...pag binaba at finold mo yung upuan sa Civic...masisira...he he he (joke)

While it is true that the Civic has the more robust engine, power is only a part of the entire driving experience. Understandably, hp ratings will always impress, but the discerning driver will always want a balanced package- fine aesthetics, good handling, reliability, power that does not unnecessarily compromise fuel economy. I'd choose the 3, considering that it satisfies the mentioned aspects quite splendidly. The Civic would probably deliver impressively, too, maybe even better with regards to power and fuel economy, but i just can't get over the lackluster exterior. Truly, i expected so much more from Honda in this department.

Of course, it's a matter of tastes. But, I find the Civic coupe much more sporty-looking than the Mazda 3, especially that black one Karding posted. While good handling is nice, would one really be able to tell the difference out on the open road? I'm sure on a closed track, the Mazda 3 will have the edge. Out in the expressway, that edge probably won't matter much.

As an example a while back, I raced a Ford Focus SVT out in the avenues and highway in my 3.3L Hyundai Sonata. The marvelous handling of that Focus hardly came into play and hard as the driver tried, he could not shake me. I had more than enough power to pass him and leave him behind if I wanted to. But, I decided to toy with him first and latched on to his tail (serves him right for smoking his tires which flinged rocks at my car).

Smooth gear shifts and power delivery are also important aspects of the driving experience and Honda has always delivered in those areas (from my own experience of driving the last model Prelude, and del Sol). Make no mistake, the Mazda 3 is still capable. But at least to myself, the new Civic has the edge, especially the coupe/Si which is outfitted better (than the sedan) for sporty driving.

    * JUN, everybody in my department parks that way. I guess we have too much space, hahaha. Yeah, nahawa na ko sa mga co-worker ko, minsan pa nga naka angled parking kami. :evillaugh

The HEMI couldnt be a d1ck, dahil babae may-ari, haha

And tama, its a matter of tastes or to each his own. Im glad I was fortunate enough to own a Mazda3 for a while to compare it to my now 06 Civic.

Reliability ratings...we'll see in the next five years.

interior noise is louder on 06 Civic than Mazda3, that should make the Mazda3 owners happy, hehehe. I heard from some 06 owners that upgrading your tires will reduce the interior noise.

tama din na maraming factors to consider while deciding between Mazda3 and Civic 06. And most consumers (notice, I didnt use the word enthusiast) are more concerned with MPG than PGP* As I previously stated on the other thread, I got 41mpg driving from SF to LA while the A/C was on the entire trip and averaging 77mph on speed.

Well here, Honda's reliability is legend. I don't see any reason to think the new Civic wouldn't continue that trend. As for the interior noise....... Considering how low to the ground that Civic coupe sits, the suspension must be uber stiff. Plus, there's those wide tires. So the noise is inevitable. But, I imagine driver feedback is excellent or at least on a par with the Mazda 3.

That's excellent. I imagine it's all highway miles (US 101?) I'm going on vacation soon. We'll check out the Civic coupe (and the Si if it's available) for a test drive.

    yes, 41mpg all-highway miles on the I-5.

Pekto, ground clearance could be contributing for the interior noise. It only has 1-1/4 wheel gap.

The HEMI owner is a MILF ;)

Well here, Honda's reliability is legend.
    Amen.

    just for comments:
the 06 civic somewhat looks like a city (side mirror design)
the 06 civic's passenger cabin looks a lot more big than the hood parang hindi proportioned

w/ speed, syempre lamang talaga civic sa mz3 but we need not race naman diba? sobrang trafic ang metro manila so i don't think speed will be an issue here

for looks and ride, i'd go for the mz3, saka iba pa rin yung steering wheel audio controls

although, i currently drive a 2005 civic hehehehehe

I just bought the Civic 1.8S AT after much thought and well, sleepless nights over choosing between the two cars. In the end, it didn't really make much sense to get a sporty car which lacked in the power department. And somehow, I think "sporty" is even used quite loosely here. Maybe sporty in a teenager-ish kind of way. The civic's design is sporty too but asks to be taken more seriously. I like that.

i've read a lot about both... i've driven them both... i've compared both spec by spec... here's what I have to say

    steering and handling: mazda3

    suspension and ride: mazda3

    acceleration / power: civic

interior space / passenger comfort: civic

overall design and design functionality: mazda3

maintenance (including parts availability and casa service performance): civic

    feedback (reviews): mazda3

    the verdict... MAZDA3!!!

    we're only getting 6.5 - 7 km/L in heavy traffic (Makati) on our 1.6L mazda3.

that's quite a shocker but a friend with a 1.3L CVT i-DSi City gets 10km/L. i would expect the 1.8L automatic civic to get 8km/L. something to think about...

also the Mazda3 has much harder shocks than the FD 1.8S. Some people will like that (it doesn't roll much in hard turns), other people will hate that.
