Test drive both units first. Hindi barya barya ang pinaguusapan when it comes to their prices.
I've driven the Fortuner. I find it tolerable. Yes it rides like a truck even at correct tire pressures.
Madami na din akong nakitang Santa Fe's dito sa Q.C. Since I have an off-roader already, the Santa Fe is for me if I had to choose between the two.

sta. fe for me... i like the way it looks... common na rin kasi ang fortuner... pero na hihirapan ako dito sa cebu kumuha ng twentys na 5 holes 114 pcd...
never tried santa fe, i cant say anything bad or good about it...i own a fortuner 2.7VVTI so its quite obvious, sa fort ako... laki kasi ng family ko...
Sa looks mas maganda IMO Sta. Fe. Reliability? Don't know much bout korean cars', but if you've got good experience with them e d mas ok.![]()
I think there's nothing extra special between the two models but personally, "even" if its a Hyundai, I would go for the Santa Fe since it seems better than the Fortuner over all.
Nowadays, it's the SF that gets the stares and the headturns. It does so because of the interesting proportions and curves.
However, I believe, down the road, if resale is a consideration, the Toyota would still give better returns.
For me, i'd still go for the SF.. or if I have 1.5M now.. hmm Civic for me and a City for my girl![]()
starex has better resale value than grandia if we are gonna use as basis acquisition price - prevailing market value diff of 2nd-hand unit of each brand ...
my prediction, fortuner will suffer in resale value in the next 3-5 years. main reason, oversupply of 2nd hand units.
Marami ngang bumibili ng kotse sa pinas without even doing a test drive, eh.

Very true. Same with other hot cars available in the market.
That is very possible. In my opinion, the Fortuner now is what the Pajero was in the 80's. I know some people who bought a Fort even though they don't really need an SUV, so ang nangyayari pang status symbol nalang talaga or pang show-off.
Sadly the ones who usually complain about its ride (daw), car/ride height (para sa mga pandak, no offense po), handling and other things that really matter are the ones who have not really driven the thing!
Santa Fe siguro ako... kaya lang turn-off yung kapanget-panget na door handle sa rear door ng sante fe hehe
fort na. looks plang khit mrmi sya head turner prin. ksi if ur going to modify the fortuner like what i did. i gave my ride a 22" chrome rims, mesh grill, side led, angel eyes. kasi mdali siya gwing headturner unlike the santa fe prang 90 sportage ^_^
We have both these great SUVs, (Fortuner 2.7G and Santa Fe 2.2 CRDi) and here is my assessment:
Looks - Santa Fe
Interior - Santa Fe (standard leather seats and more roomy)
Ride - Santa Fe (the Fort is just too stiff, ayaw sakyan ni Misis)
Engine Performance - Santa Fe (drove along SLEX at around 180kph with 5 passengers, no sweat; not sure how the Fortuner 3.0 D4D performs)
Transmission - both are smooth but Santa Fe's 5th gear is a plus
Braking - Santa Fe (strong yet smooth stopping)
Ground Clearance - Fortuner (an advantage indeed especially for off-road and floods)
Interior Noise Level - Fortuner (quieter for me and sobrang konti lang rattling parts)
Resale Value - Fortuner (sa tingin ko)
Overall, I like both SUVs, pero if I were to choose only one, Santa Fe ako.
