*Gumusut_Amige: Me too, sir. Now that I learned that the Hiace is more fuel efficient, I am now convinced to get one.

*rna800: Yes sir. Haha, I am gonna dress it up, too to make it look even better.

But the question is, which color is better? Haha. Black or White (2-tone)? :p

    Sir Silvio_12,

Kung Hiace na ang napili niyo, direct niyo nalang ang questions niyo sa Toyota/Hiace thread para kahit anong questions niyo related on your procurement of the van ay masasagot. Ibang topic nanaman kasi yang color.hehe

The 2.5 D-4D engine found in the Hiace SG is powerful enough, for an engine with a smaller output on paper compared to others and the added weight of a van, power delivery is surprisingly good. I've seen a lot of Grandias accelerate past me and my T6 on the highway hehehe

My company has both the GL Grandia and Grand Starex as service vehicles for guests and field work.

Drivers prefer the Grandia since it can be loaded with more people/cargo and maintenance is very simple. Fuel consumption is great, a big factor since these vans run hundreds of kilometers a day. One van has logged on almost 200k kms with just the normal change oil and filters, no major parts repairs yet.

The Starex on the other hand is comfier, but the maintenance is more complex, some underchassis parts break down easily and had to be replaced a number of times already. It also consumes more fuel.

Economically, the Grandia takes the cake for the company's use. If I were to own one personally, I'd probably get the Grandia too. What I liked about the Starex though is that second row bench where I can lie down in the long trips but that's just me. Hope this helps.

It was, it is and I think it will be forever that way.

Talagang hassle siya if you are a DIY type of person kasi challenging ung mag ayos sa ganong position. I recall when I had to look what type of battery my SG has, kailangan ko pang mag consult sa booklet kung paano tignan ang engine bay.hehe But if you are the type of person where you will just bring it to your dealer for service, there's nothing to worry at all.

We have some relatives in our province who have the old Hiace, I don't know what model pero ung mas maliit ang kaha, siguro mga early 2000 model, malinis naman and walang trace na amoy makina ang loob.

*frostmourn: I don't know what made you say na mahina sa akyatan ang Starex pero sa GRX Starex ng relative namin, malakas siya anywhere. Nagko convoy kami noon using my Dmax pickup na DDI engine, hindi niya ako malayuan pero hindi ko siya maunahan kasi nagma max out ang Dmax sa 175 kph. Siguro ung GRX nasa 180 to 185 kph. How much more ung Grand Starex VGT na malayong mas malakas ang specs sa GRX.

Well kahit sa uphills. Bukod sa nagma max out ang speed niya sa 140 to 145 kph, nakakatakot na siyang patakbuhin at that speed knowing that you are carrying 10 souls with you or more sa iba niyang variants.

Given the overall size and purpose in life of the Hiace, it really should only be good for up to 140-145kph on the open highways (and i only visit this speeds when conditions allow, usually to clear up the carbon build-up on our Grandia). If they put in the VNT engine later on, i'd rather have it tuned for low-end torque and efficiency rather than highway speed.

Servicing is a PITA indeed but it's still much better than the yagbol boiling days of riding shotgun in our old L300 back in the mid eighties and early 90s.

Mas masarap i drive starex kahit ikaw mismo may ari. Never tried grandia. Pero i'll choose my Grand Starex anyday lalo pag kasama family.
