Mazdaspeed 3 because I own 1 and am happy with it and the 08 STI because of the power and handling.

Hmmm... someone's finally tested the new Caliber against the current batch of hot hatches.

(well, not a hatch, but it's hot)

Four way test with the Golf GTi, Impreza WRX and Mazdaspeed3.

Obviously, the Mazda won... both on the track and with the judges.

And they're constantly after getting more power out of smaller displacement engines. Of course, this has led to criticism that their engines are more about peak numbers and less about driveability, but you can't deny that there's some appeal to tiny little engines that can rev their nuts off.

It's their dedication to using engineering instead of displacement to motivate their cars that has led to their recent award as "2007 Greenest Automaker" in the US... where even Toyota has gone V8, Honda dares to be different, sticking to the V6 for its trucks.

Unfortunately, now that variable geometry turbocharging is becoming ubiquitous, and as increasingly restrictive emissions hamper their ability to create high-revving screamers (they have to develop furiously just to stay ahead of the curve), Honda's Type R is kind of handicapped against its competitors in the power department.

Still, it's a tempting prospect, if only for the drama of being able to rev where no other engine dares to go... ;)
anong engine ng Type R na yan? parang nawala na yung mga sikat nila like the b16, b18a/c etc. k20 na ba?

A Corolla hatch is already available with a 3.5-liter V6 in Japan, which could also make its way to the US, Europe and Australia (don't even think about our country). This will easily beat the others in an acceleration test. For now, I'd pick the Ford Focus ST (orange) or VW Golf GTi.

Acceleration =/= sportiness... but the idea is enticing.

The current Type R has the latest iteration of the K20.
