    The simple answer: Construction.

Hatchbacks need to be built stiffer at the rear because the hatch makes for a bigger opening than a sedan's trunk, with the rear end being shorter at the same time.

By design, you'll notice a sedan has the rear windshield base beam to act as an additional structural brace. Hatchbacks do not. So to compensate for this missing crossbeam, the entire rear end is made stiffer. By comparison, sedans do not need as much stiffening as hatchbacks because part of it is already built into the design.

It's not only restricted to the Jazz and City. The Subaru Impreza sedan and hatchback have a similar price disparity, with the hatchback being more expensive.

IMHO, speaking on the practical side...

i suggest the city since you will be using it as a family car (i think) and it has a bigger rear compartment for your everyday needs.

and, as parking/mall/office security always ask us to open our trunk, you wont feel the "negative pressure" upon closing the lid in the city, unlike that in the jazz....super helpful if, for example, your daughter is sleeping inside the car...

cant comment on the fuel efficiency since i havent tested the jazz.

on the safe side, get the ones with dual airbags...

no offense to our brother jazz owners...

for more info on the new city, feel free to visit this site... http://www.hondacityclubph.com/forums

*mreyes: as far as I know dual airbags din ang Jazz.

*slurpee: On Fuel Consumption: I believe they are the same because they have the same engine, same transmission, and approximately the same curb weight (no significant power-to-weight advantage of one over the other)

On Safety, Both doesn't come with alarm and doesn't have autolock functions. Both cars come with ABS, EBD, and Dual Airbags (City A lang ang walang airbag). The Jazz have the better tires so you have better grip during driving. But if you're talking about crashes, the bigger the car, generally, the safer it is. Longer crumple zones in the front and at the back for the City, therefore generally safer.

On Practicality, both are pratical in its own way. Depends on your needs. Cabin-wise, the Jazz is generally more flexible as you can store really bulky items when needed, because of its design and the ULT seats. But as mreyes said, nakaka-istorbo when mall security opens the trunk door at malaki na naman talaga yun trunk ng City with 500 liters of space. Practicality sa price, syempre mas mura ang City, also, the larger tires of the Jazz will mean mas mahal yung tires mo when time comes that you need to replace it na.

Although I really like the Jazz (been wanting one since it was released 2004), I never got to own one because I felt it was too expensive for such a small car. Got a Vios 1.3E instead of the base Jazz several years back. And just recently, I picked the City 1.5E over the 1.5V Jazz.

Both have dual airbags, BTW, here's the crash test results for both cars, however, the crash test for the city was by ANCAP, while the jazz was done by EURO NCAP. The Jazz got 5 stars, while the city got 4.

I suggest you get the city because of it's more comfy ride. Jazz kase medyo sporty ang ride (IMO). In terms of engine performance and fuel efficiency, hindi magkakalayo yan, same engine lang naman, however, AFAIK, mas magaan lang ng konti ng jazz compared sa city.

Overall, both are very good cars. It's just a matter of preference and budget.

ill suggest you go for the city. AFAIK, same engine gamit nila. wider trunk space, more leg room, sedan.

After reading a gazillion articles about fuel efficient + good looking cars criteria, I have settled down with this 2 models. I'm planning to get the 1.5 version (top), financing options

So could you help me out? any pluses or minuses for the 2 mentioned?

Saka baka may alam kayong magandang dealership?

    TIA

    I prefer the Honda Jazz.

For me, the interior and exterior looks better. The hatchback makes the Jazz for flexible in whatever cargo you want to stuff into the car. Extra large stuff that will not fit into a standard car will easily slip into the rear cargo area of the Jazz. The fold-flat rear seats doubles the cargo area.

    Myself included.

Though admittedly I'm not a Honda guy, the current generation Jazz 1.5L appealed a lot to me when it first came out in '08. Honda got the design right, well at least to me it looked better than on the GD. And those 16" wheels filled up the wheelwells nicely. Plus it did not lose the flexibility and space of the cabin. Minivan space with sub-compact proportions.

What I couldn't justify, however, was the price of admission, especially when compared to a Vios when Toyota slashed Vios prices. Somehow I felt the sedan provided a bit more formal feel compared to the hatch's all-around aura.

Between the Jazz and the City, definitely the Jazz. On looks alone tapos na ang boksing, add the functionality of the interior pa.

kung ikaw ay bata pa at walang pamilya, go for the jazz

FC of my 1.3S MT City:
    City: 15km / L
    Hi-way: 23km / L (avg 60 - 70km/Hr, 4 adult passengers)
    Hi-way: 18-19km / L (avg 80 - 100km/Hr, 4 adult passengers)

    just sharing my opinion.

    Buhayin ko lang ito.

I love the Jazz and would swear by it, being a former owner. Pero a bit of dilemma lang ako.

We went to Honda Pasig yesterday and we looked at the new model. We also had the chance to look at the new City. Pogi rin naman ang City and way comfortable sya specially sa likod. Being ULT seats ang Jazz, parang bench type na lang ang chairs nya while the City is plush and comfortable. There are other small difference i've noticed. One is the steering wheel controls for the audio. City has it while Jazz wala. Maganda mga material ng seats ng City kaysa Jazz but that's subjective. Didn't noticed kung power side mirrors ang Jazz though pero yun City yes. Plus, medyo bland ang color selection ng Jazz kaysa City. Well they're both bland pero mas maraming choices lang ang City. Plus of course the price being cheaper ang City kaysa Jazz.

I know the selling point of the Jazz is the space, but since I have a SUV already, I probably won't be utilizing it much.

So, would it still be wise na bumili ng City? Wala bang problems ito in the long run? Or feature wise ba sila lamang ang Jazz or City?

Your opinions, please. Thanks. BTW, i'm only comparing yun top of the line of each model.

    Jazz ge ftw!!!

Sporty yet elegant ang dating.. Isang buong mountain bike kasya sa loob. Daming options di nakakasawa tignan.. And yes, mataas ang resale value.

Halos twins ang city and jazz mechanically, so same pros and cons (no cons afaik).

What i really do love about the jazz is the driver view, much better than the city imo due to its bigger windows and windshield. Also the roof height, I'm around 5'10" and extra effort sumakay ng city for me. Jazz, chicken.

Also, mas loaded ang city interior-wise than jazz, which is probably due to the rumors na may new model next yr (may 2014 honda city spy shots na). Meanwhile, around 2015 pa siguro dadating jazz replacement.

As a secondary ride, good choice ang city esp with the deals and promos it has now. Jazz, matinding haggling pa.

Yes, the color choices for the jazz is VERY boring

Agree with you on that, bro... Malimit akong ma-umpog sa City...

City over Jazz pa rin ako, bro.,- for reasons I stated earlier in this thread.

pinagpilian din namin itong City and Jazz last December... pinili namin ni wifey itong City 1.5E. I think appropriate lang ito of our plan of having an SUV near future, it complements.

Shucks, I'm 5' 10" as well but since this would be primarily my wife's car, I think I would have to squeeze in.
