Hello there, I'm also faced with the same dilemna on which of the above cars to choose , mit glxi 99, civic vti and corolla gli 99. I'm more inclined to choose corolla but I'm still listening to your further views . Gli 99 would be perfect if not for the slightly tight interior space, Civic is really durable too. These cars score above average in terms of reliability according to Consumer's Reports here in North America.
If I'll go home to the Philippines , I would consider buying any of these 2 cars, but I'd like to hear more of your expert opinions before finally deciding.![]()
actually medyo nafrustrate ako, kse type ko talga origanally is Lancer (pizza pie) for its external appearance kase mukhang masarap ayusan... kaya lang ang dami bad reviews (kalampagan, servo kit is plastic madali masunog) so i have to trim down my choices sa civic (which is medyo mataas and presyo baka mabitin budget) and corolla gli (sabi naman ng iba masyado common "taxi")
CIVIC ka na heh he. Ingat lang kung masyado mababa than going rate, baka may problema yun.Originally Posted by vedder

bought in 96, pero 1997 model ok? first batch itong amin.Originally Posted by vedder
try test driving one first before making any decision. parts of those cars are plenty.
If you want a sportier drive, get the Civic, but if it's reliability you're after, the Corolla is for you. Whichever you choose, you can't put a foot wrong. ;)
The Lancer is not a bad car. I've driven a GLXi, though it's the older egg type (94 model). It's worn out, yes, but also partly because of lack of proper maintenance. My own GLi also doesn't undergo regular check-ups since it has to be used almost everyday. Right now, it's not in its best form, but based on that, it seems to wear out less easily than the Lancer. There are less rattles and squeaks from the suspension and the engine seems sturdier.
If you really want the Lancer, get one with respectable condition. The Corolla is designed to tackle our bad roads, which explains why its suspension lasts longer than the others. With proper maintenance, the Lancer shouldn't really put you down. It may not be the benchmark, but heck, it boils down to driver preference. So good luck to you.
My 98 Lxi is doing 14 km/L in long drive with slight traffic. Manila to Bataan. Manila to Batangas. The "TOG" at the rear ound could be caused by worn trailing arm bushing. my car's underchassis still feels very solid, pero me mga pinalitan na din ... like stab links.
wr_castro
My 2nd vote would be the Lancer, sorry pero di ko masyado type ang porma ng AE 101.
Only 2 of the 3 cars mentioned ang may firsthand experience ako - Civic and Corolla. The lancer we had was the Gti. If reliability of mitsu made cars is the basis, I'd say OK naman lancer, hindi ka ititirik (xcept nung masira ECU nito). On the build quality, medyo maraming kumalampag sa Lancer GTi within the 6 years the ginamit namin ('92 - early '98) but then again, this is a different horse from the GLXi. Our Civic had 1 minor suspension problem, the corolla had none.
A friend owns a 1999 GLXi a/t, he's very satisfied with this car, it's fast, economical and sound set-up is amazing (hehe not really part of the car tho).
Still, If i've to choose, I'd get the CIVIC. hindi po ako bias sa CIVIC, just na mas gusto ko talaga over-all yung model na yun. Para ngang mas gusto ko pa sya than the current model IMHO lang naman po = )
I personally think the Civic's suspension is softer than the Corolla. It's also lower which is why it drives in a sportier manner. Downside of this though is that it's not as long-lasting as the Toyota's.
All three cars are nice-looking. Front, I like the Civic, rear, Lancer, everywhere else, Corolla. Choosing through aesthetics is a matter of personal taste.
civic ka na, with a 300k budget you can even have a 98 civic.go for the vti.nasabi na nila lahat ng advantages ng honda. isa pa, walang hondang ginagawang taxi hehehe.
i have a 97 civic vti at wala akong problema sa kanya.
try also looking for cars sa sunday edition ng manila bulletin.magaganda usually ang mga naka-advertise dun.
ride safely dude.
