Yup. We had the 1991 XL 5-speed, power-nothing pero magaan pa rin ang steering. Don't know the displacement but it was 12-valve. Sold it for 85k last 2004.
XL4 ako. pero im sure you can find a decent XL5 for the price of your prospect XL4. para mas matipid sa gas kase may overdrive(yung 5th gear).
i think CBU e talagang lahat is imported. meaning buong kotse ang dinala dito including tires and battery (like the hyundais today na pati gulong korean). ang meron sa corolla ng time na yun ay SKD and CKD. yung Semi Knocked-Down, halos buo ang car except for battery and tires nung na-import dito. no need for assembly. yung Completely Knocked-Down naman, e chassis at hiwa-hiwalay na piyesa ang dating. then dito ina-assemble. meron kasi dapat dati na % na filipino made parts.Originally Posted by badkuk

anyway, going back, corolla na rin. pero mas ok sana kung yung XL 5 speed or XE. just to give you an idea of the availability of parts, the same engine is still being used by the XL corolla before the altis. thats more than 12 yrs!
I'll go for the Lancer...rear wheel drive < front wheel drive...Your suspension will definitely last alot longer with all the potholes...You don't need alot of horsepower (bumper to bumper traffic)...
go for the corolla sir. mas bago na mas madami pa pyesa. easier to maintain at bang for your buck ride. sarap pa pormahan, dami versions. tipid pa 2E engine (1300cc 12 valve). i'm getting 12.8-13.1km/L out of my 1300 engine 5 speed mixed city / highway driving. 10-11km/L all city.
mga sir... huwag nyo pong i-under estimate ang isang MITSUBISHI LANCER BOX TYPE... actually i owned 2 box type.. SL yung isa 1984.. kahit 4 speed sya napapaabot ko ng 140km/hr and more... ni hindi mapag iwanan ng isang honda hatch back EG9... umaakyat pa ng Baguio yung mitsubishi BOX TYPE ko... i think it depends naman sa condition ng box type na sina sabi nyo.. ganun din sa corolla... vise versa lang po yan... ang nakikita ko lang naman na problema ng isang box type eh ang body... madaling makalawang... yun ang main problem ng boxtype... pero when it come to performance saludo ako sa box type... mas daig pa ang aso sa katapatan sa amo...![]()
both are classics but the corolla is a bit easier on the eyes if you're going out on a date ;)
