Civics, whatever variant they are, are really strong cars in terms of acceleration and handling performance. The only car in the segment that's faster than them (now that the Civic 2.0 MT is gone) is, again, the Focus TDCi.
Yeah the 1.8 and the 2.0 has almost similar 0-140KPH times because of the gearing of their tranny. Although the civic is very very fast, i really don't like overtaking with it. The throttle-by-wire lag (plus the a/t lag) plus the very anemic low RPM power makes (adds another second or two in the response time when i have to rev it up to higher rpm or to downshift) it hard for me to overtake in a lot of situations, i still prefer a diesel car or the low end grunty altis when i need to overtake a lot. The civic is still a joy to ride on free wide road.
