oh ok ok
so just to get a good opinion.
Which among these would be a good buy?
rx-7 turbo FD 760k
skline hr33 700k
eclipse 700k
fto-gpx with custom sounds 950k
3000gt 900k
gto twin turbo 840k
240sx 350k
lancer gsr 2002 400k
integra converted 350k
The RX-7, no... you'll spend too much downtime waiting for parts if anything goes wrong. It would be great to look at, though.Originally Posted by chriz_siy
The Skyline, depends, what model? Is it a GTR, a GTS-R or merely a GTS or four-door regular? You'll need to budget a lot of money, remember, for maintenance. The shops around here that carry stuff or import stuff for Skylines charge a lot. Also, you'll have to check the conversion very carefully, make sure they did a good job. Generally, unless you have another half million on hand, I wouldn't recommend spending so much on a ten to twelve year old car. It is the best looking of all the Skylines, though, and definitely maangas sa porma. :D
The Eclipse is kind of expensive, depends on what year it is. But it should be a good buy.
FTO would be nice. Don't know how easy or hard it is to maintain the FTO's MIVEC V6, you'll have to ask the mymitsu.ph guys.
3000GT, nice car. Definitely unique. Have no idea where you can find parts for it... at all.
GTO? Mitsu?
240SX - should be relatively easy to maintain compared to some of the others. Basically the same parts and engine as the old GTS-R Cefiro (give or take a few emissions/electronics). Engine's not very sporty in terms of sound or power, but the car's nice. I'm guessing this is an S13? (the pic I posted was an S14... the 240SX and 200SX share the same body).
Lancer GSR 2002 - nice little car. Quick for a 1.6 AT, but dog slow compared to anything else. Those later year models only have ATs, but at least they have airbags and ABS (a lot of the others, especially the conversions, don't have airbags). Interior is good if a bit dark, and the leather seats are nice. GSR owners report some aircon and idle control problems after a few years, but with your budget, these things can be fixed easily. Of anything here, this would probably be easiest to own.
Integra - I'd prefer an original LHD one from the US if you can find it. What year is this? That's kind of cheap for a recent Integra. Parts should be easy, but RHD-LHD conversions are a lottery (you're gambling with your life.. ) and the dashboard may not look nice if it wasn't done properly. Kasya sa budget mo naman ang recent Acura Integra from the US, which would be LHD already, and fresher... as well as newer looking.

Based from your comments and advices, I'm convinced that 200sx or 240sx would be the best buy (aside from the FTP and 3000gt). Would you happen to know someone/ad/link/place that sells them? It would really be a great helpOriginally Posted by niky
Ty po sobra! Ur the best ;D
Get the Eclipse original LHD na auto and buy a manual tranny mga 100k pasok pa rin sa budget. I Know somebody who owns an evo 3 na converted he's been using for years lately ayun naglock steering buti buhay pa sya.
NOTE: I wish I had your daddy!
Miatas are quite fun weekend cars, but if you're looking for something with good looks and weekend cruising ability, the Eclipse or 200SX are both good. It depends on your taste, but I like the 200SX better, it's lower, wider and looks great on big wheels. There are some new rims you can buy with a wider offset for the rear wheels that would look great on a 98' 200SX. The 200SX will also fit within your budget, and it's still kind of new, so maintenance won't be as serious an issue as an old Skyline (get used to waiting/hunting a long time for parts). Also, the SR20 is a fairly common engine, so electricals aren't such a headache yet.
The SR20DET in the locally available 200SX is a very robust engine, almost as good as Mitsubishi's 4G63T, with the advantage that it was available in RWD, AWD and FWD. It's also a good engine to tweak on, if a bit more expensive to play with than a Honda engine, as there's a lot of stuff available for it.
And again, if speed is the furthest thing from your mind, a brand new Hyundai Coupe would be perfect. Just pass by Hyundai's showroom on E.Rodriguez (near St. Lukes) and check out their showroom unit. Have a seat and I'll bet you'll be convinced. That's the perfect weekend car, no two ways about it, and it's good value for the money. Good steering, good features, and good looks.

since daddy wants in on this .. i'd go for the gto twin turbo .. or 3000gt ... but these babies are fast .. if you're more into looks .. the eclipse might be better ...
Check out this thread. http://www.hondaclub.com.ph/forums/i...howtopic=36793
They're selling a 1997 turbo Eclipse for 678K.
200SX would be better than the 240SX, better engine definitely. Don't know anyone who's selling at the moment. You can check out nissanbayan.com and see if any classifieds have been posted lately.
As usual, check the condition of everything carefully, have a mechanic check the engine and equipment. Try asking for a test drive in traffic (preferably hot traffic) and on the highway before deciding. This is to pinpoint any problems with the engine and electronics.
Some of these cars have been modified and drag raced, and I'm aware of one, at least, that's got a blown engine from the owner modifying it for too much power. SR20 engines are legendarily tough, but increasing the boost on one without adjusting the fuel system is a sure recipe for engine failure (and/or fire... whichever comes first). If the owner left it alone, the engine should be completely fine.
Check that the VIN/engine number match the original registration, as a blown engine may have been swapped for another surplus one. An engine swap also indicates abuse by the previous owner, and you should avoid that vehicle. You might come across a 240SX with an SR20DET swapped in... owners do this sometimes as the KA24 is not so easy to modify for power. Take this at your own risk, as swaps often involve a rats nest of wiring issues which aren't easy to fix.
I'm not sure what maintenance items you have to budget for. The AT is relatively robust, if you get an MT, those are okay unless they've been raced a lot or are very old. SR20s chew up manual gearboxes if they've been modified for big power figures. The MAF might need cleaning or replacement. I'd budget about 20-30 thousand as a contingency fund just in case anything electrical or electronic needs replacing and you have to order it from Japan.
The casa offers service for locally sold ones (but they're probably out of warranty already). Popular shops like Fusion R, eRL Motorwerx and AutoPlus (is that right? the one on EDSA) can probably help you for maintenance items, but service at eRL and AutoPlus is likely expensive.
As much as possible, get one of the local ones, so you're sure it's original LHD and original 2 liter turbo. Since speed isn't an issue, the fact that they're AT means they're more convenient around town.
There was a 17,000 km one going for around 900,000 pesos about two or three years ago (I wish I could have bought it!), but you should be able to find them for around 500-700k, depending on condition. Good luck!
