Although I'm generally not a fan of the 1.6L Lancer, there's cost-savings to factor in too which you can then divert to modifications. I'll still go for the 2.0L and then turbocharge that. Sometimes, nothing beats pure displacement

You'd also want to upgrade your brakes ASAP to take advantage of the added power.

Re: Thread
Personally, I'll cast my vote with a Fiesta. There's a ton of modified Fiesta making rezing-rezing on track days. Aside from being a joy to drive thanks to its stiff suspension, you also have weight reduction savings compared to that of the EX.
Is the Fiesta stiffer than the Mazda? Which is setup for more oversteer? I doubt I can justify the lancer at this point, I've talked to him and he's saying that that's too much because technically it's my first car. But back in the province I've been the family's "driver" ever since I've got my license at 17.

Won't be going for power mods till after board exams. By then the warranty will be expired, and I might be able to DIY a turbo conversion.

In the meantime I'll be saving up for ceramic brake pads, lighter wheels, better tires. I won't be doing lowering springs anytime soon as the car would have to deal with light flooding, speedhumps, and potholes on a day to day basis. Maybe I could do anti-roll bars to stiffen up the rear and make it a bit more lively but that's the extent of what I can do to the suspension.
