FORTUNER (4x2) 2.5 A/T Diesel or 2.7 A/T Gas?

Hi all, i've made up my mind to change my ride soon to the 2012 Fortuner 'coz i like the facelift.. Kindly help me decide whether i get the 2.5 A/T DIESEL or 2.7 A/T GAS.. i'm considering fuel consumption, smoothness of ride, engine (performance) power, future maintenance and other factors.. KINDLY help me decide..thank you very much

3. Engine power - Diesel I guess, but the gas is no slouch
4. Future maintenance - Gas

Other factors:
1. Resale value - Diesel

By far, gas users are in the minority.

I suggest you do a test drive first to see if the Fort is really for you. Mahirap yung bibili ng bago dahil sa looks lang.

I'd be hard pressed to recommend a gas engine over a diesel engine nowadays. Most owners would go for the diesel due to it's huge torque in the low-RPM ranges.. especially important if you're doing the majority of your drive in the city.

I'd get the diesel. A family friend has one and he shares that the 2.5D4D is adequately powerful for most drivers. Gas mileage is at around 8.5-9km/L city. The Fortuner's ride quality is, I believe, pretty much the same throughout the range and it has improved a lot since the 1st generation though it is still a bit bumpy. Though it is rather underpowered as SUVs of today go, it has a lot of tuning potential should you crave for more performance.

May variant din na 3.0 diesel ang fortuner as well as the 2.5. Yes, innovas also have the same engine, as well as the whole hiace family

*topic: If i were you, i'd get the diesel version. Lakas humatak ng D4D at low torque. I'd bet mas feel mo yan dahil mas kokonti magiging passengers ng Fort compared sa Hiace Commuter ko.

Diesel na, value for money sa tipid on gas pump....maingay lang engine kung 35000km...but it doesnot matter...HOWEver, i have to point out, the Paint COLOR of TOYOTA e pumapangit na pansinin niyo...check niyo uli....parang pina pinta lang sa tabi tabi...unless ok k dyan e is up to you....pero kung hindi mag mitsubishi monteromka na lang.

diesel para sakin. sobrang tipid ng D4D, ang tulin pa.

di ko lang alam sa rifing comfort, di ko pa na try i drive yung new facelifted model ng fortuner. ang na drive ko lang is yung 1st model, medyo matag tag pero ok naman.

The current D4-D engines are not so noisy as the 5L-E still used in some African-spec Fortuners. It's nearly as quiet as a gasoline-powered...

-that the 2.5 Fort Diesel has the same 1KD-FTV (D-4D) engine as the whole Hiace variants which hauls 12-15 passengers and considering that the Hiace has it's engine mounted inside the vehicle, right below the driver's seat. While the fort seats lesser passengers and the engine infront.
-i have to test drive the facelifted fort soon and check its bumpiness and have to keep a keen eye on Toyota's paint color.

Get the diesel-powered Fortuner and you won't regret.

The 2.5li D-4D is 2KD-FTV. The 3.0li D-4D is 1KD-FTV.

1KD-FTV (3.0li) is not available for the Hi-Ace sold in the Philippines.

If you only consider the VGT engine and 5 speed auto transmission, the Montero 2.5 GLS-V A/T wins hands down (over the Fort).

Ayun! Since pasok na ang Montero Sport GLS-V, yun na ang kunin hands down! Para kang nagdagdag ng isang L300 engine sa Fort 2.5 engine ang lakas niya (L300 makes 73hp, Fort 2.5 102hp, and GLS-V 178hp ). Then there's 5 speed A/T w/manual shift override, four wheel disc brakes, and a more comfortable ride.

There must be some reasons for the diesel be more usual

I used to be a die-hard enthusiast of the big V6 and V8 gasoline-powered engines, but actually some 4-cyl diesels even looking underpowered don't really feel so. An uncle of mine currently owns a Chevrolet Blazer with a 95HP Mercedes-Benz OM014 diesel engine and is very satisfied with it.

Fuel efficiency- Diesel naturally, especially in long trips. But in City driving, its not such a big difference in my opinion.
Smoothness- Gas engine. The diesel is smooth and refined, but the Gas wins this one.
Maintenance costs- Gas engine.
Power- Gas engine. I've seen 2.7L Fortuners sticking close to the tail of hard driven 3.0V Fortuners and 3.2L Montero Sport. The 2.5 Diesel is decently strong in the low rpm range, but I found it breathless in the 3000+ rpm. Not sure if its lack of intercooler is the reason for this.

Let me add this by the way, the 2.5L diesel actually feels more powerful than what the 102hp 260nm of torque may suggests. If you do most of your driving in the city and seldom feels the need to go over 120km/h in the highways, you should be satisfied with its performance.

I have a Navara that has power at high speeds and a Fort 2.5 D4d that has low speed power. I enjoy driving the Fortuner in the city and the Navara on highways. But if I had to choose only one of them I would prefer the Fortuners engine because it accelerates smoother than the Navara's engine. I do not go over 100kph that much nowadays. The 2.5 engine does it job fairly well. The 102hp rating should not turn you off. Go for diesel.
