    Hey Guys,
I'm looking for an SUV for my wife, something she can use to work daily and out go out of town occasionally with. Based on our budget, (around 1.6M) and our needs ( mostly city, sometimes out of town, ample storage space, high clearance for flash floods in edsa ) and other considerations (Hey I'd want to drive it too!) We've narrowed down our choices to the New CR-V (1.655M) and the grey market diesel sportage at Autoaccess or pittstop motors (around 1.65M). My concerns with the CR-V are value for money, as it seems to lack a lot of the bells and whistles premium variants normally have ( leather seats, HID lights, Push start button), and it is gasoline powered. I love everything about the grey market Sportage, it has all options, and it is diesel. However I am not sure how it will age 4-5 years from now ( when we normally change cars), how its resale value will be, and of course the aftermarket service and warranty as it is a grey market unit. Would appreciate your thoughts and Inputs. Cheers!

Sportage na. Tatagal naman yan, just look at the 1st gen sportage.

Di sulit crv. Di pa ganun kaganda imho. And the diesel engine is really fast

mukhang the way you speak mas gusto mo talaga sportage sir. go for it. kung 4-5 years paguusapan. kayang kaya yan, maiksi lang yun e. pero kung more than 10 years, i think cr-v mas lamang. mas maporma din sportage for me. ang kagandahan lang ng CRV, japan CBU sya. if you're planning to sell it, mas madaming interested buyers pag japan CBU.

I didn't check the curb weight though so it might not translate to almost double but I can guarantee you the evgt engine does not disappoint when it comes to acceleration. test drive to really feel the torque of the engine

Next year pa yata yun new Escape. Wala sa lineup ng Ford this year unless they make a last minute change.

Horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races.

Peak Horsepower sells cars. Average Horsepower wins races. Peak Torque doesn't do nothing but break drive axles.

Two cars with the same torque delivered at different rpms will have different horsepower ratings. The one with the higher horsepower rating will be better able to deliver torque to the ground through the gears, and will give you much better performance.

    ----

In this case, the extra HP of the CR-V will not be felt till you get to the high end of the rev range... where you hardly ever drive. The Sportage makes more horsepower from 2000-4000 rpm, where you always drive. Which means you will be better able to enjoy the Sportage's horsepower in daily driving than the CR-V's.

    For example:

Not shocking to anyone that the Sportage puts more power to the ground than the CR-V in any gear at any speed below 100 km/h, and is still close above it. Ignore the area above 220 km/h, the CR-V doesn't have enough horsepower to pull in those areas, anyway.

So... torque wins, right? Not really. The CR-V is hampered by being geared for economy. If it were geared to hit the same speeds at redline as the Sportage...

The Sportage is slightly faster at the start of each gear, because it has higher horsepower there. The CR-V is slightly faster at the end of each gear, because it has higher horsepower there. In this case, no, torque doesn't really win the race at all. Horsepower makes it even and more revs wins it... because the CR-V can stay in gear longer than the Sportage can.

What's important to take away here is that the Sportage has better gearing and makes 110-150 horsepower at 2000-3000 rpm, where the CR-V will be making just 40-50 horsepower. That matters in day-to-day driving.

*Note: Power graphs generated using quoted power values. Dip in CR-V graph is due to expected power dip due to VTEC kicking in, yo.

*Note2: These graphs assume both cars are on stock 215/70R16 Tires. Smaller tires will increase wheel torque.

what's up with all this talk about power and speed and arguing which car is less slow? both cars are slow no matter how you put it, those cars weren't made for speed. anyway back on topic i'd get the sportage the only advantage of the cr-v over the sportage is it's size but the sportage offers a lot more. resale value don't really care about that as long as i was able to enjoy the car for the years i've driven it ok lang kahit mababa ang resale value.

Paper horsepower specs don't mean much, lalo na kung ganyan kalapit yung figures (177 vs 185) tapos yung isa gas habang yung isa turbo diesel.

Even the figure that says where peak RPM is reached isn't really an indicator of how peaky or how linear the powerband of a car is.

It's pretty hard to compare horsepower figures based on paper specs alone, lalo na kung magkaibang manufacturer. Take for example the City 1.3S and the Vios 1.3J/E/G. The City has 15 more horses than the Vios, but almost anyone who's driven both would agree with me that they feel roughly as powerful as each other in normal conditions.

In the end though, as has been said, nasa driver yan.

Ibig nyo sabihin pag bumibili kayo kotse hindi nyo sinisilip yung power / torque ng bibilin nyo aside from the features kse hindi naman pwede mag pa takbo ng mabilis dito sa pinas blah blah blah it's not built for speed blah blah it's the driver? Weird pala ako hehe tama pala teacher ko

Nung pumili kami ng kotse everest vs santa fe. Nung na test drive namin Santa fe yun na kinuha namin kse ang lakas ng torque compared to everest + the features syempre

Ano mas mabilis? Crv o sportage? e hindi naman yan sports car, not built for speed
Ano mas masarap? Regular yum o cheese burger?
Ano masarap orange o apple? Lechon syempre

Seriously that's what I get from some of you guys. I'm going back to my corner now
