If you bought a kia rio for the 1.4 expecting to save on fuel because of the small engines maybe ul be dissappointed.. 1200 a whole week mon to sat of 40km per day driving in the city is more than decent, compared to my previous 500 a day using a 2.0 vehicle.

Relative performance isn't the issue here. Yes, to some, the performance of the 1.4 engine from the Rio is sufficient and there's no need for the punchier engines that other subcompacts offer. But if that's the case, they can save themselves a hundred thousand pesos by getting a Rio 1.4 EX sedan or a Vios 1.3G instead.

Also, if what you're saying is true, that you only spend 1.2k (~22L) of gasoline for a distance totaling 240 km, then you're averaging 11 km/L. In the same conditions, a Vios or Mazda 2 would probably close to 13 km/L, while a Fiesta could do 11-12. If you'd compare the fuel consumption of people from the Fiesta thread, the Vios thread, and the Mz2 thread, they all average higher than what those in the Rio thread get.

So yes, while you can improve the rather dismal mileage of the Rio by improving your driving style, you can do the same with all other cars and also get gains in fuel economy.

Aside from styling and the fancy push-button ignition, what exactly does the Rio have that makes it so "feature-packed"? For one, it doesn't even have 4-wheel disc brakes. It has projector headlamps but still dons halogen bulbs. Heated side mirrors, but in this country, who needs them? Automatic climate control, well the Accent also has that, along with a more powerful 1.6L engine. Point is, while it's got some nice features unique to itself, it isn't drastically more loaded than other subcompacts in its price range.

When I read the Rio thread, I feel consoled that I'm not the only one averaging only 7 km/L

Fiesta - not while it has the DCT. Does it still have the DCT? Yung Focus already got the 'true' A/T.

Jazz - still ever reliable. Most "practical" of the lot.

Mazda2 - Fun to drive, smallest on space.

Mag Fiesta ka na. Yung 1.0 Ecoboost. Wag mo lang sana makuha yung unit na magkakaissue sa DCT. [emoji23]

Which Fiesta model? I have the Ecoboost model and I would not trade it over a Jazz or Mazda2 or Yaris. It might be smaller inside than a Jazz but it handles like a go-kart. It is also very athletic as it is quick enough to beat most 1.6L NA compacts, PPVs, or MPVs on a sprint to triple digit speeds.

If you want an all-around subcompact hatch, it has to be the Jazz.

Take the Mazda 2. Well engineered small car, it was built from the ground up with the engine, transmission, chassis under 1 platform. Unlike other cars that is a hodgepodge of everything. Fuel efficiency is good. Offers the best overall driving experience. But this if space is not anyway an issue.

Alternatively, Jazz is no doubt the most dynamic esp with its unparalleled space and ULT rear seats. But not a big fan of CVTs, yet.
